Here we go. August. The most boring month of the year. If I were still in school, I'd be getting excited about going back to school in a few weeks, buying new notebooks and pencils and such... There's just something so promising about new school supplies.
But in the world of the Grownup, there's nothing special about summer. The last big reason I had for liking summer is gone. For about six years now, summer has officially been my least favorite season, and August my least favorite month. There are no holidays in August worth celebrating, and it's too hot to actually want to do anything. At least when September gets here I'll be able to start looking forward to fall. (Yes, I know those of you lucky enough to live further north or at higher altitudes can actually start looking forward to autumn in August, but then for you, August isn't as swimmingly hot as it is for me.) Oh, well. With any luck, I'll be able to busy myself with friends and think of some projects to work on at work and the month will pass quickly. (At any rate, I have to think of something to get my mom and brother for their birthdays...) ![]() So, I left work a little early yesterday to take my car to the body shop to have it appraised. Heh. Apparently there's a huge demand for body work just now. After my car was appraised and pronounced driveable, I was told that I had an appointment to bring the car back on August 28th. It'll be a whole month before I can get my car fixed. How obnoxious. Oh, well. I was informed by my insurance agent that I have a rental car rider on my policy. This was news to me. I don't remember adding it. But it's good - it means that Matt won't have to go out of his way to drive me to work while my car's in the shop. Though where my agent thinks she can find a rental car for only $30 a day is beyond me. Maybe they have special rates for insurance companies. ![]() Sorry this is so sluggish today, but that's a good approximation of how I feel: sluggish. My eyes keep drooping closed, my head keeps nodding, and all I want to do is curl up on the floor with my back support as a pillow and take a nap. And someone picked all the grape Jolly Ranchers out of my candy dish while I was on vacation. ![]() Word of the Day: doppleganger - a ghostly counterpart of a living person; alter ego; a living person who has the same name as or who closely resembles another living person Sometimes I wish I had a doppleganger. I'd get her to do all those things I secretly want to do, but don't dare. Tell my manager he's terrible. Quit the corporate slavedrive and start my own business. Ask that guy at the bank who went to school with me if he even remembers the incident that burned into my brain and made me hate him for five years. Pack up and move to another state, preferably north of here. Tell certain people just where they can shove their various neuroses and personal problems. Throw theme parties. Start a wine-tasting group in search of a wine I can actually stomach. Take art classes. Get over my thing against roller coasters. Reintroduce the Rubinesque figure as the pinnacle of beauty. And when they asked, "What's gotten into you?" I could answer: "You'd do better to ask, 'What's gotten out?'" |
