Matt and I went out to do some shopping last night, and since our shopping took us down closer to my parents' house, Matt suggested that we stop in and visit them. We stopped in to find Mom reading (her usual summer activity) and Dad working on the computer.
Mom wanted to hear about our trip to Chicago, so when Dad finished up the e-mail he was writing, I showed Mom how to get to my photo album, and we explained all the Chicago pictures. She wanted to look at the wedding pictures from John's wedding, too, but decided to wait until later, since it was so hot up in their computer room. (My parents have two separate air conditioning units for their upstairs and downstairs, and since their bedroom is on the first floor, they don't turn the upstairs A/C on unless they're going to be having guests.) At any rate, it was nice to see my Mom (I see Dad almost every day at work) and chat for a while, even if we did get home a little later than we originally planned. ![]() Matt and I are planning on shopping - at least looking - for some new furniture soon. There's a whole list of things I want, starting with almost all-new furniture for the living room. (Yes, you may send your sympathies to Matt.) I was talking with Kris on AIM yesterday, and she suggested that we poke around online to get a feeling for the sorts of styles and colors that we liked. I thought that was a good idea, so I fired up my browser immediately and started poking around at Furniture.Com. I did find four or five things I really liked and sent the URLs to Matt. I also found the winner of "The Most Hideous Piece Of Furniture Ever" award. Ready? Here you go. It's not enough to be an ugly color. It's not enough to be extremely uncomfortable-looking. It's got to be lopsided, too. ![]() Word of the Day: treacle - molasses, or a blend of molasses, sugar, and corn syrup (British); something heavily sweet and cloying Today around lunchtime I'm going to head over to the new 3GI building. Jeremy and Braz have been wanting to give me the grand tour, and it will be nice to see some of the people. Then we're going to take Jeremy out to lunch for his birthday. To tell the truth, I was mildly surprised he agreed. Jeremy hates birthday fuss, and used to treat every birthday greeting as overly-exaggerated treacle. (Which is why I haven't provided a link to his e-mail. He wouldn't appreciate it. If you know him well enough to want to wish him a happy birthday anyway, you already have his e-mail address.) But once I thought about it, it made sense. Jeremy and I were office-mates for something like two years, and while I always teased him about his reserved birthday preferences, he knows I always more or less respected them. So by going out to lunch with me and a few other friends, he can avoid any possible office-generated nonsense. You know, the funny thing about our office is that we have to turn our timesheets for the week in by 9:30 on Friday morning, estimating and guessing how many hours we'll be working on Friday. It's a system that begs for abuse, turning in 8 hours and then working somewhat fewer... Not that I would do that, of course! |
