So, we got our new hutch yesterday. It arrived around 9:45, which I know because I was talking with Matt on AIM when it came. I took advantage of my saved extra hours and went home early. It looks much bigger in our dining room than it did in the store, but it fits just fine.
I unpacked my cut-glass dishes and spent about half an hour arranging them on the shelves. (Two 14" plates, two 8" salad plates, two 12" bowls, two 10" bowls, eight 6" bowls, and two 4" bowls. I'm not sure why I have eight 6" bowls, since I have two of everything else, but what the heck. I'm also not sure what any of it is supposed to be used for except the salad plates, but I'm sure I'll figure something out. I also put a set of crystal candlestick holders on the shelf. Then, I stepped back to admire my handiwork. The glass - the door, the display panes, the shelves, and the mirror back - was filthy. And Matt had told me it needed cleaning. I'd just been too excited to really notice when I first got home. So, I took it all out again and dug in the closet for some windex and a rag. It took me another twenty minutes to get the glass all clean; several panes had to be cleaned more than once. But once I'd finished and gotten it all put back in, it looked lovely. ![]() So tomorrow we're going to Busch Gardens. And when I say we, apparently I mean everyone in the universe. It started out as just K.T., Kevin, Ashby, Matt, and me. Then Greg decided to come, with T along to drive. Shbee is thinking of bringing his friend Norf down for the weekend with him. I don't know if K.T. invited the members of her other gaming group; or if Kevin invited his friends from work. Naturally, because it's us, nothing has been planned. We don't know where we're meeting, the time is very "ish" and we have no idea how we're going to split up and roam once we get there. I mean, K.T. is very fond of roller coasters, and I hate them. When I'm the only non-coaster-rider in a group, I'm usually content to just sit and wait for the riders to ride - which is why I almost never go to BG in the first place. But I'm not the only one this time, so it's been suggested that we split up, so the non-riders don't have to be bored - we can see shows or go shopping or whatever. Of course, having bought all this furniture last weekend, Matt and I are a little strapped for cash. Not desperate, by any stretch of the imagination, but we probably can't afford to do any unbridled shopping. And I'm still supposed to be on a diet. Well, we'll see how it goes. ![]() Speaking of my diet, Chili's "Guiltless Chicken Sandwich" is fantastic. We went there last night for Elizabeth's birthday, and Kris and I spent about half an hour agonizing over our Palm databases and working out what we could "afford" to eat for dinner. We both wound up having the sandwich, and we weren't sorry! I wasn't even too jealous of Matt's steak! We also weren't sorry about the dessert we decided to split - Chocolate Chip Paradise Pie. Wow. Matt and Braz each had a slice of Ice Cream Tallcake, and that was fantastic, too. Chili's is rapidly rising to the top of my list of Good Places To Eat! (Matt was less thrilled. His steak had a lot of gristle, and his vegetables consisted mostly of things he doesn't eat, like squash. Though I traded him my peppers for his squash and zucchini, so I think that worked out.) Of course, while the food is fantastic, the service is slow. We weren't exactly lingering over every bite, and it took us an hour and a half from being seated to paying the check. It was pretty slow when we were there for Jeremy's birthday, too, so maybe it's just the kitchen setup. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing - we were enjoying the conversation. (Matt, Braz, and Jeremy all jumped in to explain to us how the Old World Indians would harvest the wings from baby buffalee - which is a winged buffalo - thus confining the adult buffalo to the ground and gaining a tasty finger food. It was hysterical.) I'm just saying - don't go to Chili's if you're in a hurry. Anyway, once we'd paid the check, I rushed Matt out of there. We were due online for a pick-up Meade Hall session at 8, and we didn't get to leave until almost 8:30. We rushed home and jumped online, only to discover that K.T. - who's in charge of the current plot - hadn't arrived yet, herself. She showed up just as we were about to try to call her, explaining that her cable modem had been down. By then it was nearly 9, and since K.T. is still recovering from a cold, we voted to postpone the session until Monday. We talked a little about the Busch Gardens trip, and then I logged out to get some sleep! ![]() The weekend should be full. Tonight Matt and I have to go to Lowe's to get some yard care things - weedkiller and some rakes and such; and we might also need to go to Target (which of course is on the other side of town) for my mom's and brother's birthday presents and some sundries. Saturday is the Busch Gardens trip. (Yes, I promise to take pictures.) And Sunday, between loads of laundry, we have to actually do that yardwork. See you Monday! ![]() Word of the Day: pooh-bah - a person holding many public or private offices; a person of great influence or power Hee-hee-hee... There's a character in the comic book Cerebus named Poohbah. Though Poohbah certainly was no pooh-bah. He spends most of his time running in fear, yelling "I'msorryI'msorryI'msorry!" Well, that or eating. Sometimes he does both at the same time, yelling "I'mfowwyI'mfowwyI'mfowwy!" with his full mouth. I just thought it was funny. News of the Weird: Ugandan court rejects 97-year-old's divorce suit -- A Ugandan court has rejected a 97-year-old's application to end his 65-year marriage on the grounds of infidelity, the New Vision newspaper said on Tuesday. Adonia Basalirwa said his wife, Florence Mpakibi, 77, whom he married in 1935, had committed adultery with several men between 1975 and 1986. It was not clear why he had taken so long to sue. A magistrate last week dismissed the petition, saying he found no evidence to support it. He also awarded unspecified costs to Mpakibi. Polygamy is legal in Uganda and divorce is not common. (Note: Just so you know... I'm going to stop doing News of the Weird during the week. I've only been doing it three days, and I'm having trouble remembering which stories I actually posted. I think what I'll do is just give you my favorite story on Fridays. But I still don't know what to do about the Word of the Day.) |
