Ah... At last, two weeks after that thing showed up on my knee, I finally got to play tennis again. My doctor called while I was in Chicago, and I called them back yesterday for the news that everything looked normal in my x-ray. Braz told me that Kris was on call, and so unable to play, but said he would play with me. Then Matt's basketball game got cancelled, so he decided to join us.
The look on poor Kris' face as the three of us headed over to the tennis courts... Ah, well. It's one of the trade-offs, I guess, for her loving her job. It was nice to know that Braz is willing to play when Kris is busy - I had been despairing of getting any regular play in, with her strange schedule. It really felt good to get out and move around and have fun. I wasn't wearing a knee brace, since I haven't yet found one that fits me properly, but my knee behaved, so that was good. I could've stood for it to be cooler, but it's still early October; the weather will improve soon, I hope. The radio crew were talking about Hallowe'en decorations this morning as I was driving to work. It made me want to get some of my own. Several houses in my neighborhood have had decorations up since the last week in September - a bit too early, if you ask me! But now that we're well into October, I'd like to get up some nice decorations. What I'd really like would be some generic "fall" decorations that I can leave up until it's time to decorate for Christmas. Autumn leaves, harvest sheaves, that sort of thing. And of course we'll need to get a pumpkin or two to carve in a few weeks. I'll have to roast the seeds again; that was really good, even if it was a lot of work. I saw the season's first true harvest spider this morning, too - it had strung its web in front of the window of the store next to my office. Luckily for me, it didn't pick a spot too close to the walkway. (Damn. Here I was hoping that early rush of them in September meant I wouldn't have to deal with them any more this year.) And I might as well warn you now: I'm already getting excited about Christmas. It seems a little odd, because my family isn't going to be in town for Christmas Day, so it'll be just me and Matt for most of the day. But I'm getting excited about the season. Fair warning - it won't be long before I start yawping about the holidays. Speaking of holidays, I've got a little one coming up. Because of travel, I put twelve hours on my timesheet for Wednesday. So I'm leaving work at noon today. Whee! And Monday is a holiday for my office - Columbus Day, which not everyone gets. Matt has to work, for example. But I don't. I'm not sure what I'll do with my day off, but I'll think of something! Look over my new furniture, perhaps. The sofa and two chairs Matt and I ordered back at the end of August have finally come in, and will be delivered tomorrow! The store will even cart away our old furniture for us! Whee! I'm excited. But slightly nervous, I must admit - we chose the fabrics and colors in the store, based on swatches barely bigger than my two hands together. What if I hate the combination once I see them on the actual furniture? Nothing I can do about it now, I guess. If it comes to that, I'll just have to try to cover things up with an afghan or some pillows or something. But I hope I like it. I hope the reality matches the vision in my mind. That would be nice. Word of the Day: yawp - to make a raucous noise or squawk; clamor News of the Weird: Bizarre names give rise to new rules in Honduras -- Names like "Spark Plug" and "Miracle Tire" have prompted the tribunal that oversees the country's public birth registry to request legislation forbidding parents from using "extravagant or offensive" names. The region where most of these names can be found is the Gracias a Dios (Thank God) province. "It is common (there) for people to employ names usually used for automobile parts," the tribunal said. |
