There are presents under our tree! Hurrah!

As I was leaving the office yesterday, a package arrived for me with presents for Matt. I thought I'd go home and wrap them before he got home, so he wouldn't have to worry about whether he was allowed to look in any boxes. But when I got home, there were two more packages on the porch.

And then I remembered there were about three presents already waiting to be wrapped...

So I spent an hour and a half measuring paper, folding, taping, and writing names on tags. (My back hurt by the time I was done - I have got to find a better place to do this than the bed in the guest bedroom. Or at least get a taller box for my work area.) And now there are presents under our tree!

I felt like I'd accomplished a lot when I looked at the pile of presents, but then I looked at the checklist and realized that wasn't even half. It wasn't even a third. There are a few things we still haven't bought, and a couple of people we haven't even made up our minds what to get them.

At least Matt can help with the rest! (Come to think of it, all the "undecided"s are his responsibility...)

I find I'm actually looking forward to this trip to Chicago. I wasn't, at first. I even resented it a little - I was already busy enough. Taking three days over a weekend to go to Chicago was only going to play havoc with the schedule, and it's not long enough for a really good visit. And flying this time of year is always crazy and practically garunteed to make me irritable.

But I'm feeling positive and almost relaxed about it today. And that's good. I haven't made a single list yet. And if you know me at all - that's astonishing. I have resolved not to let the hustle and bustle and hurry bother me. We're not checking any luggage, or transporting anything delicate. We will get there when we get there, enjoy what we can of being with Matt's family, and get home when we get home.

And who knows? Maybe I'll get to talk to Matt's sister long enough to get an idea what she'd like for Christmas!

Word of the Day: neologism - a new word, usage, or expression;

You mean there's a word for this? Matt makes up words all the time. Our usual response is something along the lines of, "Gee, I sure wish I had majored in English. Then I could make up new words, too!"

Company marks the holidays with silver chads

NEW YORK -- A jewelry company has teamed up with a designer to produce a line of jewelry to mark the ongoing battle over who won the election in Florida.

Just in time for Christmas, sterling silver gifts include a butterfly ballot with hanging chad pendant for $125 or pregnant chad cuff links for $100.

(Egad. Who on earth would want to remember this mess, much less commemorate it?)
