Last year: I think I'm just looking for an excuse to make meringue kisses again.

The PowerBook is making me more productive, I tell ya! I'm well ahead of schedule at work, and last night, despite a number of frustrating problems and Braz's appearance to share software, I managed to start working on Kris' afghan, transfer my Quicken files to Atalanta, balance my checkbook and my credit card accounts, and get my Palm synched.

It's a miracle, I tell you!

(Okay, so I didn't actually go to sleep until nearly midnight. So what?)

Of course, that productivity is about to come to a screeching, crashing halt. Kris "loaned" me her copy of The Sims, and I can tell that as soon as I actually install it, all sense of productivity is going down the tubes! For precisely that reason, as I packed to come to work today, I put the Zip drive in the computer and left the DVD/CD drive at home. If I can't put the CD in, I can't play it.

So I'm feeling pretty good about things today. Of course, I spent most of yesterday evening frustrated and irritable. I won't get into it, really - it was mostly stupid nitpicky stuff, like not being able to find the installation disk for Palm Desktop for Macs, or having my old computer lock up about four times. Hopefully today will be better.

I think today's productive thing will be to sort through all the gunk that's on the dining room table - throw away the trash, pay the bills, put away the leftover Christmas stuff...

Or maybe we'll drive down to Newport News to pick up our new VCR/DVD player. My dad called last night to say that Circuit City had called him to say it was in. And while we're down there, maybe we'll buy a new cordless phone. The old one went belly-up a couple of days ago.

I'm not really sure what happened. Matt says he'd been having trouble with it, but I don't recall any myself. All I know is, Tuesday evening Matt went to call Braz and the phone made that obnoxious beep it makes when its battery pack is dead. He put the phone back in the base unit, and went upstairs to make the call... And came right back down again to tell me that all he could hear on the upstairs phone was a hissing noise, as if a phone was already off the hook.

He unplugged the base station, and the upstairs phones started working. After he made his call, Matt fiddled around with the phone some more. He took the battery pack out. He plugged the base station into a different socket. No dice. Apparently the base station has forgotten how to hang up the line. And of course, we've had it for a couple of years now, so there's no point in trying to have it repaired - the repairs will cost more than a new phone. Bah.

Ooh, I know! We'll eliminate that phone line altogether, and get cell phones for all our actual voice calls!

(I'm just kidding. Maybe.)
