There was good news, and there was bad news.

The good news is that my dad has a job again! What a relief!

The bad news is that he showed up in my office at 3:30 to get me to help him make some copies (our photocopier has a passcode) and use the fax machine to fax his acceptance letter back to his new employer.

This isn't bad news of itself; I was happy to help. The bad news is that it kept me until after I'd been planning to leave, and just after he left the Contractor Guy came in to answer some questions I'd e-mailed him.

Contractor Guy doesn't really get into the mood to work with other people very often, so since he'd crawled out of his cave to talk to me, I didn't dare let the opportunity pass me by. So I worked with Contractor Guy until my eyes started to cross and my brain started to send smoke out my ears. By the time I left, I'd put in a 10-hour day, and come to the conclusion that the thing we need Contractor Guy to do for us can't actually be done in the time frame. Why he didn't tell us that three weeks ago when he started - when there might have been time to formulate an alternative plan - I don't know. Now I have to write e-mail to my project manager to tell him that one of the more important pieces of the project is Broken, and will probably have to be rebuilt from the ground up.

Today's the staff meeting. I'm not looking forward to it at all.

I was so tired when I got home last night that I dumped all my stuff in a chair and then, without even changing my shoes, went for a bike ride.

... Is that illogical? I was tired, so I exercised? I dunno. It's what I wanted to do, so I did it. It wasn't a very long ride - about a mile, I'd guess; maybe five minutes or so. Just enough to make my breath come harder and my heartbeat speed up.

The alternative, as near as I could tell, was to drop into a chair myself and not move until bedtime. By the time I got back home, I had shaken off enough of the lethargy to let momentum carry me to the grocery store... And then fix dinner.

Matt called just as the Meade Hall was getting started, to let me know he'd made it safely. We talked for a while about nothing in particular. It was nice to hear from him.

Diamond woke me up at four this morning by knocking a bunch of things off my nightstand. I didn't have any patience for it today, so instead of playing the usual game of trying to get him to stop, I got up immediately and put him in the garage. Heartless and cruel, perhaps, but much more conducive to sleep.

This morning I smacked the Snooze on my alarm clock for half an hour, which was probably a little longer than I should have. But the bed was nice and warm, and I really didn't want to come in to work... Oh, well. I guess I'd better get on with it.
