Last year: And then it occured to me to wonder if I could still teach calculus.
Bah. My PowerBook is acting up lately. Every time I boot it up - for several days running, now - it gets hung up loading the extensions, and I have to reboot. At least I found out how to warm-reboot a Mac; hitting the reset button, which is what I was doing when I first got it, resets the clock.
It snowed on us yesterday. Not an awful lot, though it's surprising for us to get snow at all in February. We got maybe an inch of snow, and then it changed - joy of joys - to freezing rain and sleet. I wasn't concerned about the snow, but when it changed, I started to be concerned about the state of the roads, and left work early.
Not that I hadn't already been looking for an excuse to go home early as it was.
Not much to talk about today; I went home and watched some television and a movie. Just about the time the movie was about to end, Braz called to see if I wanted to get on IRC to resolve some Meade Hall stuff. No, I'm not going to get into it. I'm sure you all got just about enough of me obsessing about the 'Hall last year, right? Anyway, I watched the end of the movie and then got online, only to discover that Braz and I weren't the only ones online - K.T., Rachel, and Karen were logged in for a session on their 'Hall plot.
Just as we were getting started (which was a good half hour or so after I'd logged in; it took a while to get Braz caught up to date, since he hasn't been on the 'Hall in about eight months) Matt arrived home. I thought I'd log out, but Matt said he might as well get online, so we all 'Halled merrily for an hour or so until Braz had to go eat dinner. I even got to deliver a scathing retort I'd been working on for a couple of days. (What? Don't look at me like that. I'm smart, but not very witty. It takes me a while to come up with scathing retorts. If I can anticipate the need, so much the better.)
We finished just as Sports Night was starting. I tell you, this is rapidly becoming one of my favorite shows. Too bad Comedy Central doesn't actually produce it; they're just showing reruns of a show one of the other networks cancelled. Bah. After that we watched the Daily Show, and then we went to bed.
Oh! I almost forgot to tell you! I wrote another Flash animation a while back, and as a result I'm sortof reorganizing bits of my site. The original link I gave you still works for now, but I'll be moving it later. If you had it bookmarked, the new divination section is here.
The new Flash selects a random verse (poem?) from the Tao Te Ching. I go into more detail about why I set it up in that section. I actually wrote it mostly for myself, and it's much less flashy (pun intended) than the I Ching generator. But because it involves random numbers, if you couldn't see the I Ching Flash, you won't be able to see this one, either.
Yes, I know the Tao Te Ching isn't really meant to be a mantic tool. But if you know my feelings on divination, then you'll understand why I wrote it this way.
I am a bad, evil person. Oh, yes.
I took some graphics from a website - so far not bad, because that's what the website is for, and the graphics I took were in the "free" section - but then, contrary to the copyright on the site, I modified a couple of them. I know, I know. Bad Lizzie.
I'm trying not to compound my evilness (is that a word?) by posting the changed graphics anywhere. But I'm actually sortof happy with the changes I made... They make a fairly nice portrait of my primary MeadeHall character. Hmm. I wonder if I should write the guy and ask for permission.
Yeah, I'm glad it's Friday. Can you tell by my completely disjointed entry? But hey, I actually managed to use the Word of the Day today! How much more can you ask?
