Last year: I kill houseplants with startling regularity, but I think most of the bulbs that I planted last autumn survived!

I'm gonna talk about gaming in general, and the Meade Hall in particular. If that's not your cup of tea, feel free to skip today's entry, or skip down to the next topic, or whatever.

I'm a romantic. Never tried to deny it, never will. To a greater or lesser degree, I think most gamers are. Either romantics or bloodthirsty combat machines. Certainly, everyone who plays on the 'Hall is something of a romantic. (Even the ones who would much rather not be.)

At least three-quarters of the 'Hall plots involve some level of romance or other emotional commitment. Some of them not only involve it, but revolve around it. For those of us who simply can't get enough romance, it's a fun outlet, and the stories are good.

Anyhow, I recently introduced a new character, Kevil. Kevil is handsome, charming, glib, and an insatiable flirt, among his other faults. Naturally, most of the other male characters find him infuriating, and the majority of female characters are alternately flattered, charmed, and flustered by his attentions. He's a lot of fun to play. (He'll be even more fun once he's done learning the language. It uses up a lot of concentration to keep track of the ways he habitually rearranges his words and keep it mostly consistent.)

One of the other characters, Meghan, went so far as to return his flirtations, and so I found myself online last night as Meghan and Kevil went for a walk. Then K.T. logged on, and because Meghan lives in the same house with a couple of K.T.'s characters, she invited Kevil to come home for dinner.

They had a pleasant little chat over dinner, and Kevil asked some nosy questions under the guise of trying to understand local customs (things are very different where Kevil's from. I'm not going into it now; it would take too long.) and apparently, all unknowing, opened an enormous can of worms. I'm not explaining that now, either - if you're curious you can wait a couple of days and then check the transcripts on the website.

Anyway, as I remarked on the side channel, the irony was just too funny to be believed. Here were K.T. and I, two women, playing two men who were giving each other advice about women. It could only have been more amusing if Rachel (who plays Meghan) was actually a guy.

Yeah, I know. Long set-up for a kindof dumb anecdote.

Actually, I was going to talk about how these romantic tangles seem to erupt on the 'Hall every spring. Last year there was the mess between Zoya and Marten; and if I'm remembering correctly that's when Glossaria and Vallel got together as well. But I can't remember further back than that, and I seem to have forgotten the password that gets me into the Patron's portion of the website, so I can't scan through the old logs and check.

So what you get from me is a lot of aimless rambling, instead.

Hey, it's the first day of March. I could instead be babbling about my flowers, like last year. Heh.

Okay, no more MeadeHall. Really. Well, not for today, anyway.

I really wish I could comprehend my cat. Really. For a couple of weeks right after New Year's, he was so good... Well, at least he didn't make a pest of himself until it was just about time for us to get up anyhow. Then he went back to his old ways of waking me up in the middle of the night, anywhere between one and four in the morning.

This morning, he jumped up on the bed around five. And - wonder of wonders - when I pulled him into a snuggle and petted him in the hope that he would just relax and not pester me... He did. He snuggled with me for a little while, then moved down to the foot of the bed, then moved over and snuggled with Matt, purring the whole time.

I think it's his new plot. I wasn't losing enough sleep just getting up in the middle of the night; now he's making sure I stay about half-awake for an hour or longer, trying to anticipate him.

Yep. That's got to be it.
