Last year: The collection of floppy disks I've filled with pictures taken on my digital camera has finally overflowed the section of the floppy box I'd set aside for it.

I went to lunch yesterday with my dad, his friend John, and some friends from the office - Jim, Jerry, and Becky. The six of us went to the Backfin, which is a pretty good seafood restaurant with the best cornbread mix in the entire universe. No, really.

Becky and I arrived first, and wound up standing around for a bit waiting for a table to be assembled. As we waited, one of the waiters walked by, and we both goggled. He had to be at least 6'4", blonde, with large, muscled, weight-lifter's arms. We watched him walk by, and then looked at each other. "Strapping," Becky commented, and I agreed.

Finally we were seated just as everyone else arrived, and our waiter arrived to take our drink orders: the same "strapping" guy. Becky and I watched him, less than surreptitiously, for most of the meal, grinning at each other like idiots.

Jim eventually caught on. "I feel like I'm out with my sisters," he complained. He started smirking at us whenever he caught us watching the waiter, and his smirking made us break out into giggles. As we were leaving, Jim said, "Don't worry too much about the tip; I think the girls have got it covered."

Not my best show of subtlety, folks... But the food was good. And the scenery was nice.

We went last night over to Jeremy and Elizabeth's new house, to meet them and the Brandts and celebrate the closing. After the grand tour (They're going to have a lot of work to do - the previous owners had wallpapered with patterns chosen specifically for their furniture, and it'll clash hideously with Jeremy and Elizabeth's. But I love the house layout.) we got pizza and sat around in camp chairs in the empty (and echo-y, and very plaid) living room. After we ate, we played a couple of games of Matt's new "Before I kill you, Mr. Bond..." which turned out to be a lot of fun.

Tomorrow we'll be helping them move. I think the current plan is for the boys to actually do most of the moving, while Kris and I will help Elizabeth start unpacking and direct traffic. We (the girls, I mean) will probably also be in charge of coordinating food and drinks. It's a pretty good system.

I also need to get some work done in the garden this weekend, whether or not it rains. My incubation tray for the seeds is having its roof pushed off already by the tomato sprouts. The cucumber sprout is already four inches long, and the squash are doing their best to catch up.

There's some weird stuff. Only one of the cucumber pots has a sprout in it, and three of the tomato pots hasn't sprouted at all, either. Since I really only want one cucumber vine, and no more than three or four tomato plants, I'm not upset, just confused. The columbine hasn't sprouted, but it's got a longer germination time, according to the packet, so I'm not worried about it, either.

But I think what I need to do is get a couple of uncovered trays and take the sprouts out of the incubation tray, and put them in the sun for a week, and then start acclimating them to the outdoors. But that means I'll need the garden to be ready for planting in two weeks, tops.

And that means I need to make a trip down to PetSmart, to see what they suggest for keeping dogs out of the bed.

Gonna be a busy couple of weeks. Too bad I can't skip work today to start working on it.
