Weekend? We had a weekend? It all went by so quickly...
Friday evening Matt and I went over to see K.T., who was home from the hospital. She's doing much better, though she (understandably) tires easily. Sometime this week she's supposed to have an appointment with a pulmonary specialist who will hopefully keep this from happening again.
Saturday was spent pretty much lazing around the house. We had a side Meade Hall session that went more than four hours before I finally insisted that I wanted to go eat dinner. We were supposed to meet Braz and Kris for a movie, but once we got to their house, we decided we'd rather just sit around talking instead.
Kris is really starting to show now that she's into the second trimester. I can't wait for her to have her baby; being "Auntie Liz" is probably the closest I'll ever get to having one of my own. Even if I don't "get over" this year's annual baby-lust, I don't think Matt is ever going to change his mind, and it really needs to be a decision on both our parts.
By the way, I don't mean to make him out to be the bad guy, here, and I don't wany anyone who reads this to think so. He just doesn't want to be a father. It would be different, I think, if he said he did want to eventually have kids and was just dragging his feet. On the other hand, in five years, when it's too late for me to safely have a first pregnancy, I plan to ask him to have a vascectomy so I can go off the Pill. By then, I'll have been taking birth control for more than half my life.
(Shit, I've got it bad this year. Actually typing that I've only got five years left - putting it into black and white - brought tears to my eyes. Nevermind that five years ago I wasn't even married; nevermind that it wouldn't be unreasonable to have several children in that time. All of a sudden, I was panicked and upset: in five years, I'll have to give up forever the thought of having my own children. Is this what they call the ticking of the biological clock?)
Bah. Too deep for this early on a Monday. Whether or not my future holds a child of my own, I'm looking forward to being Auntie Liz. My real (but so far theoretical) nieces and/or nephews will live so far away that I'll be lucky to see them once every few years. I've got to spoil someone!
Where was I? Oh, yeah. Saturday night. Sunday, while Matt and Braz settled in to watch this year's first baseball game, I went over to K.T. and Kevin's again, this time to wish Kevin a happy birthday. (Yes, he was really born on April Fool's Day. Yes, he's sick of getting trick candles on his cake and gag gifts.) K.T. had suggested he might like the Diablo II Expansion pack, but I couldn't find it (she told me later that she didn't know if it was even out yet) so I dorked out and got him a gift certificate at CompUSA so he can get it (or whatever else he wants) later.
K.T. and Ashby (who is still in town) expressed a desire to have Greek food for dinner. A quick Internet search revealed one place not too far away, and we piled into the Hicks car to try it out. It turned out to be a combination Greek/Italian place, and the food was pretty good. (Though they gave me no onions and far too little tomato for my gyro.)
Of course, I woke up this morning with a mild case of heartburn, so I guess I'll have to put Greek food on my growing list of foods I need to be careful about. I was a little annoyed. I've never had heartburn in my life before this year, and all of a sudden it's attacking from all sides. I'm going to have to start carrying Pepcid AC in my purse.
I had a good time, but the weekend was so short! It's less than two weeks until Easter now, which means I need to start planning something for Matt's basket. And then only three days until our anniversary, and then another couple of weeks to K.T.'s birthday. It's practically May already!
Oh, dear. I'm getting old, aren't I?
I almost spent a lot of money this weekend. I almost got a cell phone. I almost bought a Predator CD-RW while I was at CompUSA. And funniest of all, I almost bought some groceries.
I'd stopped at Food Lion on my way to Kevin's birthday gathering to pick up some ice cream to go along with his cake. I picked up the ice cream, got some hot fudge topping for it... Wandered around and picked up a couple of random snacks for later. Got in the express line, and while I was waiting, picked out a little sheet of stickers, thinking I'd put them on the envelope I'd put Kevin's gift certificate in.
It was a very slow express lane, but it was a better option than dealing with the high-piled carts in the next lanes. Finally it moved enough that I could put the ice cream down on the little conveyor-belt and stop freezing my hands. And then the line stopped. I noticed the cashier was looking around like she was waiting for something, and inwardly groaned. No, not a price check!
Little did I know.
The line next to ours stopped, too. All the cashiers' computers were beeping and insisting, "System Busy" whenever anyone tried anything. Ten or fifteen agonizingly long minutes later, the manager announced over the store intercom that the computer system was down, and they were going to close the store while they fixed it, and she was very sorry but everyone would have to leave.
Bah.
