Last year: I was still slightly tipsy when we went to the grocery store an hour later.
Wow, you guys rock. I got a bunch of messages yesterday! There was even one waiting for me this morning when I turned the phone back on. (Yes, of course I turn it off when I go to bed. Anyone who might need to contact me in an emergency has my home phone number, and anything short of an emergency can wait until morning.)
It was so much fun, I added a new page to the site; a contact page which includes the e-mail addresses I actually use (in descending order), my work snail-mail address (I give away a lot, but my home address is a little too much) and the phone message form.
Now, I just have to figure out who was sending me the "All your base are belong to us" messages. I think I've got it narrowed down to two suspects. Confess!
Aside from the messages, yesterday wasn't very eventful. I was so exhausted that shortly after two I was literally having to shake myself awake every five minutes or so. I packed it in and went home, where I put down my purse and computer, took off my jacket, and crawled immediately upstairs to bed, hoping to nap until Matt got home.
I did nap a little, but the cat decided to choose yesterday afternoon to go absolutely psycho. He attacked the door-stopper in the hallway, making it "boing" repeatedly. He sat in the computer room window and growled at passers by. He made sounds that made me wonder if he was being strangled. He tried repeatedly to climb into the blinds in the bedroom. He attacked my hair. On no account would he do anything as simple as take a nap of his own, or just quietly look out the windows.
But between his antics (and a phone call or two) I got a couple of hours of rest, which were sorely needed. After Matt got home, we went to the grocery store so I could pick up some Pepcid for my stomach ailment (whatever it is - it sits a little too high to be indigestion, and a little too low for heartburn) and some tea for work.
After that, we decided to go out to Chili's for dinner. I called Kris (the first call - aside from setting up my voicemail - on my new phone!) to see if she and Braz wanted to meet us there. They'd already eaten, but decided to meet us anyway to have dessert and be social.
Kris spent a good deal of the meal exclaiming over her suddenly renewed and redoubled appetite. After three months of being full to the point of indigestion after only a few bites, she felt like she really was eating for two - before meeting us at the restaurant, she'd eaten the best part of a 16-ounce steak and vegetables, and she was vigorously defending her enormous dessert from Braz's depradations.
Toward the end of the meal, as Kris was working to scrape every last scrap of chocolate from the bottom of her dish, Braz sighed mournfully. "And in three hours, she'll be hungry again!"
The opening was too good to miss. "Well, now you know what it's like to live with you," I told him brightly.
I count myself a relatively witty person most of the time, but I usually lack the timing necessary for this sort of zinger. This one hit dead on-target, though, and Braz put his face in his hands and groaned at the abuse while Matt and Kris laughed hysterically. It felt good. I didn't even have to feel too guilty about being mean to Braz; after all, he's the one who came up with the line "Keep hands and feet away from the food intake manifold!" in regard to his eating.
While I was poring over the tea selection at the grocery store yesterday, I thought I might try some green tea. It's supposed to be a good source of antioxidants, of which one can never get too many, and it's got a light caffeine kick - a little more than a chocolate bar and about a third of what's in coffee, according to the box - which would make it something nice to drink in the mornings.
Everyone I know who drinks tea has their own favorite brands. I even know some "tea snobs" (sorry, Karen) who sneer at teabags, though I've never had a problem with them, myself. Me, I usually prefer Celestial Seasonings' herbal teas (though I go to Stash for peppermint tea). Celestial Seasonings has recently come out with a line of variously-flavored green teas, and I was hoping the store would have a sampler of them so I could try the various flavors.
Alas, the store carried the fruit sampler and the herbal sampler, but no sampler for green tea. (Though I see at the website that a green tea sampler does exist; maybe I'll have to look for it elsewhere.) I finally settled on the "Honey Lemon Ginseng" flavor as probably being the closest to a combination of green tea and the herbal teas I'm more used to.
I must say - having drunk a mugful while I've been writing this entry - I think I like it. And it requires less sugar (yes, I'm a barbarian who puts sugar in my tea) than coffee (yes, I'm a barbarian who puts sugar in my coffee).
Wow, that was almost astonishingly boring. I think it's time I went and did something productive, like trimmed my fingernails or something...
