Last year: Just call me Liz the Blackthumb.

Tomorrow is Matt's and my anniversary. Three years, in case you're wondering. According to various webguides, the third anniversary is supposed to be marked with gifts of either leather (the traditional version) or crystal (the modern version). this site, despite its terrible spelling and grammar, has some interesting ideas.

However, the only leather items I can think of that Matt might appreciate are a leather duster to replace his oilcloth one - which would be a little more expensive than I can really swing just now - or a new wallet to replace his extremely bedraggled one - which would be a little cheap. (And he probably wouldn't actually appreciate a new wallet, anyway. Anytime anyone teases him about the state of his wallet, he defends it.)

I don't think crystal would work very well for him, either.

Oh, well, maybe next year.

In the meantime, we've got a dinner reservation tomorrow evening, and I have some presents I ordered a while back. He was complaining over the weekend that his present to me hadn't arrived yet, but that's all right. I just hope they aren't as lopsided as they were last year. He insists it doesn't matter - and I'm willing to believe that's true, as long as it's just money. But the sentiments behind last year's gifts were a little lopsided, too.

We shall see, I suppose.

I'm going to Fort Lee tomorrow for my project at work. We're supposed to meet with some people so we can ask questions and I can get a technical contact. (Note to self: remember to take business cards, dammit! I always forget them.) I made Keith promise that we'd be back in the office no later than five (it's about an hour and a half drive between our office and Fort Lee) but I suspect I'm going to be glad our dinner reservations are somewhat later in the evening.

I've already got an entire page of questions I need answered. Of course, Keith says he's got changes to my flow charts, and those might have some answers in them - but since he hasn't given me the changes yet, there's not much I can do about it.

Note to self #2: Remember to recharge the cell phone tonight.

I sortof wonder how the military folks will see us. Mike is perpetually scruffy, and so skinny he looks like he'd break if you breathed heavily in his direction. I'm not so scruffy (or at least, I'll be dressed up for the meeting) but I'm fat and female, which are two marks against me in the military. Well, "female" matters less than it used to, but I've never yet met anyone in the active military who wasn't openly contemptuous of the overweight and out-of-shape. And even non-military people often have a hard time separating the body from the mind.

I'll be polite, but I'm ready for a battle.
