Last year: "Did you see our new decoration?"
Okay. Been to the doctor. Poked and prodded and prodded and poked and scraped and squeezed and lectured and examined and questioned and stuck. Which is about all I need to say. I mean, you've all had exams of one sort or another, right? If you haven't, then you can't imagine it, and if you have, then you probably don't want to hear any more.
My bood pressure is running a little high, but considering the stress of the week, I'm not terribly surprised. I may see if I can get it checked again in a couple of weeks to make sure it's just stress and not a trend (my parents both have high blood pressure, so it bears checking). But other than that, and my weight (which is a chronic problem) I'm in pretty good health. So that's good news.
I don't really want to have to explain the mix-up that occurred between the insurance adjuster and the mechanics yesterday, but when I got in to the office, there was a message on my phone from the adjuster. I called the mechanics, and they're working on things now. It may be Monday before I get my car back, but the insurance company has arranged to pick up the bill for the rental car, so I don't care too much.
So it looks like everything is, if not shiny and happy, then at least reasonably well-situated for the weekend.
Matt and I drove down to visit with K.T. yesterday evening. Her leg is broken in something like five places - the orthopedic surgeon was running around, apparently, showing her x-rays to everyone who would look. That doesn't sound good. To make matters worse, the steroid-based inhalers she's been using for years for her asthma make her bones hard to heal. So she went into surgery yesterday so they could use pins to hold them in place. Her leg is wrapped in bandages from toe to knee. In ten days, they'll do some more x-rays to make sure the pins are doing their job, and then replace the bandages with a regular cast.
To make matters worse, a bone in her wrist is broken as well, so she can't operate crutches to get around. They're going to look into renting a wheelchair for her today, I think. And she's covered in scratches and bruises. It'll be a while before she's feeling back to normal.
They'd said they were thinking of asking us to loan her one of our laptops, since she can't bend her leg enough to sit at her own computer. But - and this is strictly aside from our own desires not to be away from our computers - KT has said in the past that she's not really interested in learning how to operate a Mac. And I find that I use my laptop's trackpad much easier with two hands than just one, anyway. It might be easier if we offered to help Kevin move her computer out into the living room, where she could use it while sitting on the couch. We'll see, I guess.
Not much planned for this weekend. The 7th Sea game was cancelled - between K.T.'s accident and Braz having family in town, Matt and I were going to be the only ones who could show up. We'll probably be going over to keep K.T. company (and help Kevin run errands, since they don't have a car) pretty frequently.
I'll leave you with this picture of the wonderful and amazing and strangely fascinating finger-puppet sheep:
