Pretty uneventful weekend. Over to K.T.'s for Chinese food and a movie on Friday; 7th Sea game on Saturday; lazy Sunday spent working on my resume and doing laundry and topped off with dinner at Don Pablo's.
I did make my two squash into a tiny casserole, which was just lovely, thank you. And I ate the cucumber with a little Thousand Island dressing and it was pretty good, too. Must remember to pick up some canning jars at the store tonight so when the cucumber vines start getting prolific I can make pickles.
You know what the worst part of job-hunting is, for me? It's not scouring the classifieds or going on interviews. It's the cover letter. Cover letters are awful. How do you balance sounding confident that you're the best person for the job (especially when you have no such confidence) with sounding like you're respectful of management and a "team player" (especially when you're really not)?
I mentioned this loathing to Ashby, and he was nice enough to look over my template cover letter and make some suggestions. He thought I should probably get some additional opinions - and I agree with him, but for one thing, I wanted to get that particular resume out last night; and for another, the general response when I've shown someone my cover letter in the past has been, "That looks fine." How useful is that?
Anyway, I'm not entirely certain I want this job I've applied for, but it's definitely time to start considering my options, and if you've read the last couple of weeks' journal entries, I'm sure you'll agree with me.
This place is a consulting firm. I'd interviewed with a consulting firm before I got this job, but it was based all the way down in Virginia Beach, which is a drive I was not really willing to do on a regular basis, and they didn't have enough customers on the Peninsula to promise me even mostly Peninsula jobs. So I turned them down. But this place is based on the Peninsula, so I'm sure most of their customers are over here.
We'll just see what happens. I need to remember to call Thomas Nelson this morning, too, and find out how they hire instructors. At least this time I have the luxury of already having a job - no matter how frustrating - so I can shop around a little.
Matt's car is still in the shop, so I drove him to work this morning. It's not that big a deal, but it means I'm running about twenty or so minutes behind schedule. Really - as I said - not a big deal; I'm actually just sortof curious to see if it will carry over for the whole day. Will I not get hungry for lunch until after noon?
Of course, my officemate is taking today off, so I'm going to feel a little cock-eyed all day anyway.
