Last year: Okay, it's a really geeky thing to be excited about, but I'm a sortof geeky person. And if I can combine geekiness with books, so much the better!

Yesterday, after I'd gotten home from work, I found my eyelids getting heavier and heavier. A little after six, I decided I simply could not stay awake any longer, and went upstairs. I pulled my dress off, dropped it on the floor, and crawled under the covers.

It took me a while to get to sleep - there were a half-dozen kids in the cul-de-sac, practicing jumping their skateboards, and that was a little noisy. Around 6:45, the phone rang, and I'd have ignored it except that Matt was out playing Frisbee, and there was legitimate concern that he might have been injured. (That game is a menace, I'm telling you!) Naturally, it turned out to be a telemarketer. We have got to get a caller-ID enabled phone for upstairs. The cat couldn't figure out where I was, and meowed frantically for about twenty minutes until I went and got him.

Finally, I got to sleep. And then the sound of the door opening and closing woke me up, and someone called my name - and I didn't know who it was, only that it was a man's voice that I recognized (vaguely) as being friendly.

It really felt odd. I called, "Up here!" and snatched my dress up from the floor and pulled it over my head in a rush, not wanting them to see me in my underwear. Then I got up and started to walk out, in case they felt awkward about coming upstairs... I didn't realize who I was talking to until I nearly walked smack into Matt, and then I felt slightly stunned. I'd been so positive it was someone else... I just wasn't sure who.

Nothing like that has ever happened before. Usually, if Matt comes home while I'm napping I stay asleep, or only wake up enough to mumble something at him. But I've never mistaken him for anyone else.

I must have been dreaming pretty strongly to have gotten so confused, but I don't remember dreaming. It was extremely odd.

A Subway has opened only about a block from where I work. Random and I took a break from the awful tedium yesterday to walk over. I had a veggie sub - but immediately cancelled out any virtue by following it with a bag of chips.

They've added cucumbers to the list of things you can have on your sandwich, which I thought was interesting, but a little odd. I haven't tried it, yet. I'm trying to figure out which sandwich cucumbers would go well with. Veggie, probably, heh.

I love Subway's subs. I might start walking over there on a regular basis for lunch.

And they're putting a Subway in at the shopping center near our house, too. I'm all tingly with excitement.

K.T. - three months after her accident - is finally walking unaided! Well, for very short distances, anyway. But she can move around her apartment, slowly and carefully, without crutches, and says the physical therapist is probably going to take her off crutches entirely on Friday and replace them with a cane. She seemed pretty ecstatic when she messaged me about it.

It's amazing, sometimes, the things we take for granted.
