Last year: "That's better?!?"
Sleep. It does a body good. And a mind.
After spending more time yesterday than I really want to think about working on a way to get just one piece of Oracle Developer on my computer - and then to get it to connect to the database I need to work on, and never really getting it working...
Just now, as I was getting logged in for the day, I had an idea that might make the whole thing moot, and mean that I'd only have to write one Oracle procedure.
Desperation is the mother of creativity - and I am desperate not to become an Oracle programmer.
I'll have to wait for one of the Oracle people to come in, though, so I can ask them if my idea will work. But I'm hopeful.
I'd thought about working on a story yesterday after work, but it didn't happen. Instead, I got home and pulled out my sketchbook. I cleaned up a very rough sketch that I'd started a few days ago, and turned it into one of my 7th Sea characters, Yngvild. It's not as good as the pictures I posted yesterday - for one thing, her eyes are so big she's halfway to being a manga sketch. (Proportion. Have to work on proportion.)
Then I tried yet again to make a sketch of Tarri. This one turned out much better, but there's something wrong with it, and I can't put my finger on it.
But I'm getting better. Learning, slowly, bit by bit. That's the important thing.
::blink:: My office-mate's CD-ROM drive just spun up. Which wouldn't disturb me, except that he isn't in the office. Odd.
Stupid snooper software.
It was almost chilly this morning when Matt and I left the house. It made me happy, but I have to restrain myself from too much celebration - it'll be two months before I can count on nice, cool weather.
But I'm glad it's nice today. The big task for the weekend - and Matt was talking about doing it tonight - was to get all the weeds out of the mulch beds.
Well, I did say I'd get to it in the fall... Le sigh. Ah, well, the sooner I get all the weeds out of the beds, the sooner I can go buy some new bulbs and a couple of bales of mulch. (Liz's idea of planting bulbs for the fall: Put the bulbs on the ground. Put mulch over top of them.)
Anyhow, I want some taller flowers this time. Irises, or tulips. All the little flowers are pretty, but barely visible. And they keep dying on me, which is no end of frustrating. Bulbs are supposed to be the low-maintenance flowers.
And while I'm shopping for bulbs, I might see if I can find something perennial but relatively small that won't spread everywhere to use as a border in the central bed.
I know, I know: Weeds first.
