Last year: Would someone mind telling me where the heck September went?!?

We met up with Braz and Kris yesterday for a short walk in Colonial Williamsburg. I'm amazed Kris was feeling up to any amount of walking, but as she reminded me, she's stubborn. Jeremy and Elizabeth showed up, too, and Kris' dad joined them - ostensibly to help out, but mostly (I suspect) because he can't bear to let Emma out of his sight.

Most newborn babies lose a few ounces shortly after they're born, and re-gain that weight in about a week. Four days after her birth, Emma has already regained her birth weight. Daddy's little girl, all right.

It's just as well that Kris had to move slow and take only a short walk, because the bone spur in my heel chose yesterday to flare up, and every step was like walking on nails. Or more precisely, a single carpet tack. In the same spot. Over and over.

I've put myself back on a twice-daily regimen of anti-inflammatories, and I think I'm going to have to take something for the pain for the next few days until it subsides. (You know it's a chronic condition when your doctor is willing to give you prescriptions for you to medicate yourself. Though this prescription is almost out, so I need to call him soon for a refill.)

I should probably try to at least think about losing some weight, too. Being overweight doesn't cause bone spurs, but the excess weight certainly doesn't help any. (Of course, I'm talking about trying to lose weight only a month before Hallowe'en and less than two months before the holiday season. I think I'm pre-doomed.)

I can not begin to tell you how happy I am that today is Friday. I just have to get through the next eight hours, and then I'm free for two days.

Next year's garden: Five or six tomato plants, and a border of garlic. I'll make spaghetti sauce and can it. Just a thought.

Really well-done a capella music rocks my world.
