Last year: If I'm going to be a spider, I might as well be a classy, deadly spider.

I just shipped my computer yesterday, and I was already jonesing for it last night. Tonight's likely to be worse, since we won't have anyone over or a favorite television show to watch.

Which is not to say I didn't log in to the old PC upstairs and do some Halling last night. To bed at two, up with the alarm at six - half a night's sleep, baby! Yeah!

(I might just go ahead and have some coffee this morning.)

Chatting late last evening on Instant Messenger, Karen and Matt brought up two stories about the war, or police action, or whatever it is that we're doing over in Afghanistan.

The first was that the Taliban plans to poison the food relief packages we're sending over, and blame it on us. ("They're poisoning their own people??" Karen asked in dismay.)

The second was an article Matt had seen in which some journalists encountered a group of Afghani soldiers, and asked them if they knew why we were bombing them - and they didn't. When the journalists showed them an issue of Newsweek covering the terrorist attacks here, they were horrified.

It was the second story that depressed me more.

Not because it surprised me more (neither surprised me at all, really) or because I believe people need information more than they need food to eat. I don't know if I can explain why. Certainly not on as little sleep as I had last night.

I am being prodded to write again. My efforts so far, alas, have been disappointing - though that's due in large part to the fact that I'm writing primarily at work, where I have Things To Do. Even if they are tedious and boring things.

(Speaking of tedious and boring, I should apologize for this journal entry. Coffee is definitely needed this morning.)
