Here we are! Birthday week! Not that any celebrations will actually take place until Friday, but the countdown has begun!

I did finally get last Friday's project done, only minutes before my usual quittin' time. I wound up having to do a re-design and rewrite whole sections of code, but it does what my manager wanted it to do, and even a little bit more.

He's got some minor changes he wants made, and there's a couple of changes I want to make, if I can get the time, but the actual functionality of it is done, and I'm pleased with it.

Unfortunately, I think it's back to testing, after those minor changes are made.

We went Friday night to see Monsters, Inc. It was fantastic - the "short" at the beginning of the movie was worth the price of admission!

It didn't have as many in-jokes for grown-ups as I've come to expect from Pixar, but it was still a good movie in its own right.

We were a little disappointed that there weren't "outtakes" at the end - K.T.'s theory is that they'll re-release the film in a few weeks with them so we'll have to go see it again.

I wouldn't mind.

I was restless when I woke up yesterday. I got up at 8:30, and I went outside and mucked around in the dirt for a while. I dug out the grass from the mulch bed that I've been wanting to get rid of, and sprayed the weeds with weedkiller.

Then I attacked the garden, pulling out all the plants. I found another dozen or so green tomatoes in the process, and at least a half-dozen new flowers - the gods only know how many more tomatoes I'd have gotten from those vines if I hadn't ripped them out yesterday!

I also pulled out all the carrots (well, some of them snapped off and stayed in the ground, but I did my best). Not a one of them was fit to eat, though. And then I pulled out the flowerboxes, and yanked all the weeds out of the ground.

I wasn't feeling any pain when I finished all this - just a little tired. Today, however... today's a different story. I almost wish I had one of those silly bead seat-covers, my back aches so much. It doesn't bother me too much, though, and it was work that needed to be done.

After I finished mucking around in the yard, I went inside and made my salsa. It doesn't look very appetizing, but then salsa hardly ever does. I think it needs to be drained once more before Saturday, but when I tested it with a chip or three last night, it was pretty good stuff!

But thank heavens for my miniature food processor. I don't want to think about having to cut up all those tomatoes by hand!

And then in the afternoon, I drove up to the outlet mall to stop in at the Paper Factory for some wrapping paper. (We're chronically short on non-Christmas wrapping paper.) I didn't find the specific paper I wanted to get to go with Karen's birthday theme this year, but I managed to find a reasonable substitute.

On my way out, I spotted an antique dealer selling an awful lot of silver. I stopped to ask him if he knew where I could buy a silver chest, since I have my grandmother's silver, but nothing to keep it in. (Right now, it's all in plastic bags, which does keep it from tarnishing, but is really inelegant.)

Turns out he had a couple of used chests that he'd be willing to sell me for $15. I almost bought one right there on the spot, but... No one else is likely to get me one, but if she could find one, my mother might.

I may call her tonight and ask. Because I've been wanting a silver chest since I got the silver, and this could well be my birthday present to myself!

I'm pleased as punch about the Diamondbacks winning the World Series. I'm still not going to call myself a baseball fan, but I love to cheer for underdog teams. An expansion team in its fourth year going up against the institution of the Yankees?

You bet I cheered on the Diamondbacks. And it was a good Series. Every game was close. The Series went the distance. Last night's game was a nailbiter all the way through, for both teams.

I hate shutouts. It's no fun when the conclusion is forgone. But a tight race like this, between an old establishment and a young upstart... You can't ask for a better game than that.
