Last year: I really meant it when I said I'd have to start baking as soon as we got back from Chicago.

Ooh, the "last year" link is reminding me that I really need to get with the program and start planning my holiday baking.

Of course, I also need to get with the program and start planning some peoples' Christmas presents. Specifically and especially, things for my in-laws, because we'll want to get those packaged and shipped no later than the 18th or 19th. (And while I'm at it, it would be nice if we could also be ready to ship the other gifts that will be mailed by then, too.)

And - ACK! - our friend Ashby's birthday is in about two weeks, so I need to wrap and mail his present even sooner!

And I know what I want to get Matt for Christmas, but I need to go out shopping and get it. (Though for that, I think I just need to plan to go shopping immediately after work some day, instead of going home and letting myself get settled comfortably on the couch.)

There are candles in our windows, but that's all the decorating I've managed so far. I really need to get with it!

Entirely by accident, it seems this year was the year of the DVD for Matt's birthday. What's amazing is that of all the movies people gave him - and with no coordination whatsoever that I was aware of - there were no duplicates.

Shrek. The Natural. The Right Stuff. The Godfather trilogy. American Beauty. Fight Club. Little Shop of Horrors. Seven sets; nine movies; twelve actual discs.

Not one duplicate. I'm quite impressed.

(And looking forward to watching all those movies, myself... I love it when people give Matt presents that I like.)

In fact, the only duplicate presents Matt got at all were two cases of Penguin cinnamons - from Rachel and Karen - but since they're consumable, the duplication isn't a problem. (I'd offer to help him get rid of them, but the Penguin cinnamons have too much peppermint oil in them for me. I'll stick to cinnamon Altoids.)

All in all, I think Matt had a good birthday.

Someone on the On Display list compiled a listing of how many of the monthly collaborations each person had failed to complete. My name turned up with three missed collabs.

They must have missed one of mine, I thought.

But no - I went back into my archives and looked, and sure enough; I've missed three collabs this year. In neatly-spaced intervals. April, July, October. I suppose if I were to follow pattern, I'd next skip January's. I'll have to make an especial effort to try to do that one.
