Last year: So I did what any red-blooded geek would do.

There was a plan. How foolish of me - to make a plan, when I only so recently as Sunday invoked the blessing of Murphy. (Just because I ceded to K.T. the title of Grand High Priestess does not mean that I am no longer one of Murphy's Flock. I am a priestess of Murphy, and my god loves me.)

See, I have several side-sessions for the Hall planned. One with K.T., one with Jeff, a likely one with Karen, and quite possibly several with Ashby, if he'd ever get back online.

And tonight is West Wing. And tomorrow I'm going shopping after work. And Friday is Matt's office Christmas party.

So the plan was this: I would go home, and play a little Diablo. Then, after dinner, I'd get online and Hall, hopefully knocking out a session or two.

I am a priestess of Murphy, and my god loves me.

Matt came home while I was still playing Diablo. He doesn't talk to me much when I'm playing video games, because the answers he gets from me are, at best, grunts. He said hello and went about his business. I glanced up and said hi, then went back to slaying evildoers and undead.

I swore as my character died, and looked up. Matt was nowhere to be seen. I shrugged, and went about the moderately tedious task of retrieving the character's body (and more importantly, her stuff) and punishing the icknasties who'd killed me in the first place. Just as I was finishing that, Matt stomped downstairs.

"I can't connect!"

I looked up. "I connected just fine when I first got home."

Matt's look was venom. "Well, it's not connecting now."

A few useless suggestions later, Matt called our ISP's tech support - and got a busy signal. He waited a bit, and tried again. Busy. Colleen called, and then Jeremy - it wasn't just us.

A little later, they got around to putting an answering message on the phone. Regional phone problems.

I did not have any Hall sessions last night. Instead, I called Ashby and talked for nearly an hour; I read a little; I played Diablo until my wrists hurt. There was still no connection this morning. There's no telling how long the connection will be down.

I am a priestess of Murphy, and my god loves me.
