Last year: "Okay," she said, in a tone that suggested we were making a terrible mistake and that she fully expected us to perish of starvation before morning, "how about just some ice cream, then?"

Well, I got almost all the presents wrapped yesterday. I stopped at Target on my way home to buy a final few presents (though I realized later that there's still just one more person on our list) and then later, when Matt went to basketball practice, I decided I should go ahead and wrap his present while he wasn't home.

And as long as I was wrapping Matt's, then I should go ahead and wrap the ones I'd just bought, right? And as long as I was wrapping those, I might as well go ahead and do the others that I hadn't gotten around to yet.

What's left are jars of salsa that will be going to assorted relatives, which I forgot to wrap because they were in the kitchen rather than the living room; and Karen's package, which is always just a little more elaborate than your average gift.

But the salsa should be easy - tie a ribbon around the jar's neck, and roll the jar in wrapping paper. And I'll work on Karen's today.

And then I just need to make up some packages - one to my grandparents; one to my brother and his wife; one to Karen; and one to Chicago (we'll sort it out after we get there, but decided it would be easier to ship presents than try to carry them in our luggage). And once we get those packages out, that is it, baby!

Well, unless I see something else I want to get someone.

And not counting the baking.

Though I guess I need to get most of the baking done before I ship Karen's package, because I need to include some Christmas cookies for her.

But I'll be doing some more of it tonight, and maybe more yet tomorrow. Somewhere in there, I'm going to be making one last attempt at brandy snaps.

Wish me luck.

My manager acknowledged in yesterday's staff meeting that this is a slow time of year for work. I don't think he'd be too pleased to learn that things are so slow for me that I'm watching movies and playing video games, though.

I really need to make up a project to work on, so I at least look busy. Ideas, anyone?
