Last year: I've had questions about the nature of my problem and the surgery, so when I was at the doctor's office, I requested a copy of my x-rays.

Well. The gods of sleep deprivation demanded a sacrifice. I was up until one, Halling with Shbee.

When we'd finished and I'd turned off the computer, I went into the dining room to turn off the Christmas lights that were still on, and then headed back toward the living room and the stairs.

I was watching - straining my eyes in the dark - for the cat, who at last note had been sleeping in the middle of the living room floor, but could have gone anywhere in the time it took me to turn off the lights.

Just about the time I spotted the dark blob in the middle of the floor, I walked into the little table I keep by my chair, knocking everything off it. I muttered to myself, steadied the wobbling table, and went on to bed.

This morning, when I dragged myself out of bed shortly after six to feed the cat (or more precisely, when I was on my way back upstairs after feeding the cat - I'm not terribly observant sometimes) I noticed that the table was no longer by my chair. A short search revealed it behind my chair.

I blinked at the magazines that were still on the floor from where I'd knocked them.

I was pretty sure I'd have remembered moving the table...

It turned out that Matt had gotten up a couple of hours later for a drink of water and kicked the table himself - so he'd moved it. But for just a minute there, I'd wondered...

I said to Matt this morning, referencing last night's Hall session, "In case you were wondering - Sanriel's parents are very nearly as Cute as he is."

"How adorable," Matt said. He finished brushing his teeth, then commented, "Give the plot to K.T. They'll turn out to be murderers or cultists or something."

That was probably only funny if you're familiar with the Hall and K.T.'s propensity for making the family "black sheep" really black.

On the agenda for today:

- Stop at the drugstore and pick up the prescription refills I called in, so I don't run out while we're in Chicago.

- Take three containers of cookies to the mail place, and get them wrapped, boxed, and shipped.

- While Colleen is up to watch West Wing with us, remember to give her a key to the house so she can feed the cat while we're gone; and the containers of cookies for her, K.T., and Kevin.

- Sacrifice to the gods of sleep deprivation again, via another Hall session, this one with K.T. and Karen. If we all show up, anyway.

But first... Get through work.
