16 January 2002 It is now, as I type this, just turning 7:00 a.m. I usually wouldn't get to work for about another half-hour, but Matt had to be at the office at seven for the trip up to NoVA, so we got up early. I was running rather behind his schedule, but my drive takes half as long as his, so it's not really an issue. So here I am at work, at seven in the morning. (To amuse: My laptop, which syncs every night, says it's 7:01. My work computer thinks 7:05, and my phone, which is the clock the office coordinates to, says 7:03. Wait - for better effect, I'll turn around and look at the analog clock on my bookcase... 7:03.) Yes, I surround myself with clocks. I don't really collect them, but I have a sort of de facto collection, since I can not stand not knowing what time it is - the only room of the house that I don't insist on having a clock is the bathroom. And once, when I had the flu and was spending a lot of time in the bathroom, I moved a small clock in there. And yet, thanks to my allergies, I can't wear a watch. How's that for irony? We'll see how things go. Apparently, the manager at the office Matt's going to wanted to "interview" him and the other programmer for this training before giving it to them. As Matt said, there are only two possible reasons for that: The first is that this manager already has someone else chosen for this job and has to look for excuses not to take them; or he's just a dick. Matt said he half expects to get up there and be told to go home because he doesn't have a C.S. degree. It's possible. He got taken off another project a while back because his degree is in English. What idiots. He's got six years of computer programming experience; the degree at this point doesn't mean shit. We'll see. After all our agonizing over whether he should take this training, the decision we came to might be reversed anyway. It's annoying, but if it happens, I'll try to look at the bright side - we won't be any better or worse off than we were a week ago, before he found out about this thing. Gosh, it's nice and quiet in here at 7:15. Maybe I should come in early more often. ... Nah. |
Last Year: - I'll probably still be debating it next year, and I'll probably still go. That's the way these things are.
