11 February 2002 A very merry Monday to us all! It looks like my office's network connection is screwed up again, so I don't know when I'll be able to post this - but when has that ever stopped me? The network screw-up promises to be amusing for me, actually. I'm into the final stages of my project at work, and I told my project manager last week that I couldn't go any further without his feedback. If he can't e-mail me his comments, then there's really not much I can do. Which gives me tacit approval to do not much of anything for the duration of the outage. Of course, with the network down I can't surf, either, which is mildly annoying - but it's not for nothing that I haul my laptop back and forth with me every day. I've got several half-finished projects on the Mac that I can work on; not to mention games I can play. But before that: A journal entry to write! We went to see Brotherhood of the Wolf this weekend. That was good, if very French with its weirdly distorted sountrack (I'd have thought it was the theater's error except that the voices weren't distorted; just the music) and red herring characters and scenes with no discernable point. Still, the costuming was lovely, and if the story was a little predictable, at least it was a good one. I think the subtitles were missing things, though. I can remember several instances where people said things for which there were no corresponding subtitles. And I suspect the subtitles were missing occasional nuances well, but that's probably the case with any subtitled movie. All in all, I'd give it a B- and recommend, if you're planning on seeing it, that you catch it at a matinee. And take some aspirin before you go, because that score is absurd. I Dare, the final book in the Liaden series by Steve Miller and Sharon Lee, arrived in the mail for me Friday. I devoured the book in less than a day, then turned it over to K.T. to read. There's been talk of more books based in the same universe, and I'm dearly hoping it happens. Go forth and read. You will not be disappointed. |
