Poor Matt. Four and a half, five weeks now he's spent up in D.C., coming home only on the weekends. He's had it up to here (which is somewhere well above my head) with the idiot manager they're dealing with up there, and with his officemate, who has become his de facto roommate while they're up there. (At least they're only sharing an apartment, and not actually being forced to share a room.)

So you can imagine he was very much looking forward to coming home this past weekend. A long weekend, no less, for him to relax, socialize with friends, and generally attempt to unwind.

Alas. It was not to be. Saturday he got up - not early, but earlier than he might have otherwise - to help Colleen and Carl and Richard move.

By late Saturday afternoon, he was suffering from an upset stomach, which I assumed was the result of something he'd eaten at the Chinese buffet where he'd gone with Colleen and clan for a late lunch.

But his stomach was still upset on Sunday. And mildly upset still on Monday.

By Sunday afternoon, he'd figured that he'd picked up some kind of bug, probably from the manager at the D.C. office, who'd taken some of last week off for sickness. He was feeling much better this morning, but of course this morning he had to go back to D.C.

Poor, poor Matt.

Really, I think if I didn't work, or if I could really keep my own hours, I'd be on a night schedule. Friday night I was up until three. Saturday night I was up until four. And Sunday night I didn't actually go to bed until just after six Monday morning.

Halling, of course. What else?

I'd really meant to use the long weekend to catch up on my sleep. I started out well - I slept in quite late Saturday - but I got less than five hours' cumulative sleep Sunday night/Monday morning.

I did go to bed early last night, but since I'd only been up for about nine hours, it took me a while to fall asleep. So of course I'm groggy this morning, wishing I could go back to bed.

And of course that means I have actual work that needs to be done.

C'est la vie.
