28 February 2002 Wow. Our internet connection this morning is astonishingly sluggish. I hope I can get this posted. I've been having a craving for several week now for cream of reuben soup. Stop looking at me like that; I've talked about it before, and last year I even gave you the recipe. I haven't made it yet because my regular grocery store has stopped carrying any kind of premium deli, and never did carry the alpine lace swiss that the recipe calls for, and I'm too lazy to go to the other store for the ingredients I need. I mentioned the craving to K.T. a week or so ago in passing conversation, and she decided that she would make it for our Wednesday Thing this week. So last night I had cream of reuben soup for dinner, and then a brownie with ice cream and hot fudge sauce (well, more precisely Don Pablo's chocolate sauce) for dessert. Say, I think I may have just identified the reason I was so manic when I got home... I'm craving more of the soup, though. So perhaps this weekend I will actually go to the other grocery store and get the ingredients I need, make a big double-batch, and freeze it in individual servings. Or maybe I'll just eat the whole thing this weekend. You never know. (As of today, there are now no more cookies left in the house, except for a box of last year's Girl Scout cookies that are probably stale and need to be tossed. The horror! Maybe I'll bake this weekend, too.)
So anyway, he's been definitely present, but fairly quiet. All these things on his mind, he's been keeping to himself except when I've been playing him. Not last night. I have no idea why (maybe he likes chocolate sauce more than I thought) but while I was driving home from K.T. and Kevin's last night, he popped up and started talking to me. Specifically, he started practicing an eloquent and very romantic speech. He's a bard. He talks a lot, and it's usually fairly eloquent. Practicing speeches in advance in my head is something he does a lot. It got a little annoying right before he was about to meet Loria's parents and he was practicing telling them off, but usually there's an occasion for speech coming, and I don't mind if he plays with wording and cadence and such. But I have no idea what prompted last night's impromptu performance. The whole way home! Maybe it was the chocolate sauce. Maybe it was that I spent fifteen minutes or so combing out K.T.'s hair with my fingers. (I love to mess with peoples' hair - and likewise have mine messed with - and it's one of the traits Kevil shares with me.) Maybe it's that the moon was mostly full and very pretty and silver up there in the sky. Who knows? Not me. Maybe Kevil does - but for all his talk, he's not telling me. |
