14 March 2002 Ha. Today's year ago link quote is a line that has stuck with us - almost all my real-time friends use it occasionally. Behold the power of, um... the sarcastic comment, or something like that. Well, I spent most of yesterday in a sort of pensive funk for no particular reason. I almost wrote the notify list with absurd melodramatic nonsense about half a dozen times, but managed to restrain myself. I spent half an hour or so standing in the front of my office, watching it rain. Like that. Then I left work and went to the hair stylist, where I almost managed to get depressed about being fat in general and my double chin in particular, but while the stylist was in back mixing up the dye, I thought, Oh, to hell with it, and dozed off instead. Why yes, I do believe I might be PMS-ing; however did you guess? I went over to K.T. and Kevin's last night for subs and a movie. We encountered possibly the worst Subway store - and employee - in our area. They were out of bread, and that was Kevin's fault; they were out of provolone cheese, and that was my fault; they'd gotten their hot peppers into their olives, and I was a bad customer for insisting that the guy pick the peppers off my sandwich before he wrapped it up. On the other hand, the movie Kevin rented was The Last Castle, which turned out to be quite good. I had only a couple of minor problems with it. There were a couple of scenes where James Gandalfini takes a page from the William Shatner School of Acting ("I'm......... sorry about.......... this. It's......... a........ policy."); and the stunt with the helicopter and the water cannon (I won't spoil it for you in case you haven't seen it) broke my suspension of disbelief. But other than that - the characters had some actual depth to them, the plot was engaging, most of it was believable (if only barely), and it had some great action. And a trebuchet! How can you not enjoy a movie with a trebuchet, I ask?!? |
