14 May 2002 I was very, very tired this morning. I was so tired, in fact, that I hit the snooze on my alarm four times this morning without even noticing. When the secondary beeper alarm (as opposed to the primary radio alarm - they're built into the same clock) went off, I mumbled, "Oh, shit," and reached over to shake Matt a little and wake him up. "Sweetie, we're running late..." My hand encountered air, and then empty mattress. No husband. Matt had gotten up already, and I hadn't even noticed. I'm usually pretty groggy first thing in the morning, but I almost always wake up when Matt gets out of bed. Even when I go to bed at four in the morning on the weekends, and he gets up at eight - I usually crack an eye when he rolls out of bed, before going back to sleep. I'm thinking tonight I might just need to get to bed a little earlier. I know, as we get older, that our bodies slowly deteriorate. And I know I haven't taken the best care of my body. But does it have to fall apart all at once? Now, in addition to the Mystery Knee Pain, I have a Mystery Hip Pain - on the opposite leg, of course, so instead of just limping, I walk with an odd lurch that makes me feel obligated to say something like, "Walk thees way..." every time I head down the hall. But I was having fun, last night, talking with K.T. and Karen about our planned Girls' Day at the end of the month. Karen's going to be in town for the last week of the month, and we'd decided a while back that one day, we're going to gather just the girls, and we're going to watch a bunch of movies that we probably wouldn't otherwise watch, just to drool over certain actors. Last night we were talking about making it a real to-do and a regular girlie party, with snooty cheeses and wine and drinks and playing with hair and stuff. Jeff, who was on-channel with us at the time, said he was starting to get a little jealous of the fun we were planning. We suggested that he arrange to get together with the Guys the same day and do something. We warned him, though, that Kevin and Matt probably weren't going to go in for the whole toenail-painting thing... |
Last Year: - "I know what you could write about in your journal Monday," Matt said to me.
