It felt like a lazy weekend, mostly

Not necessarily the good kind of lazy weekend, but the kind of lazy weekend where you know you have a lot of things to do, but you just can't seem to lever your ass off the couch to get them done. That kind of lazy weekend.

But then I thought about it a little.

I paid a stack of bills. Updated Quicken on my computer, and balanced the checkbook.

I bought some groceries (okay, they were mostly impulse-buy kinds of groceries, but I'm having the tomatoes and mozzarella for lunch today!). I even pre-packed two tupperware containers wtih the tomato/mozzarella mix, so they're all ready to go.

I bought some boxes preparatory to storing the Babylon 5 tapes we hardly ever watch. (Need to actually store them, though.)

I bought myself some new shorts (which is good; summer is here and I only have three pair that actually fit).

I helped Matt with the laundry, a little.

I downloaded and installed the latest update to CC2 and spent probably more time than I should have dorking with a map.

I Halled. Oh, boy, did I.

So... No, I didn't pack up the B5 tape. No, I didn't pack up the comics like I've been saying for over a year I would do. And no, I didn't go out and weed the garden or set up the sprinkler.

But I didn't spend the weekend entirely vegetable-like.

Sort of. Shut up.

I won't say I had a bad day on Friday, but a number of small annoying things sort of built up over the afternoon. By the time I left work, I was feeling pretty grumpy and generally distressed.

When I got home, there was a long tubular package on the doorstep. I picked it up to take it in, wondering what Matt had ordered and from whom.

The name on the tube was not Matt's. It was mine.

I wondered what I had ordered and then forgotten about.

The tube had originated with ProFlowers - and I know I hadn't ordered any flowers recently. Certainly not for myself. (I've been known to buy flowers for myself, but not online or for delivery - I just go the darned florist.)

Nor were they going to be from Matt - if he couldn't get them delivered to me at work, he'd have hand-delivered them.

I put all my crap down and opened the tube. Orchids. Two stems (and some decorative greenery). The poor flowers were slightly baked from having sat in the sun on our front porch - several flowers fell off the stems, but they were mostly intact. I put them in a vase right away, and then looked for the card.

Reflect sent them. For being a valuable customer (or, more likely, because my last order tipped me over a certain amount and triggered something in their database).

But it didn't matter all that much.

It's amazing how much a little surprise can affect someone's mood, and how bright a few flowers can make things.
