26 June 2002 And lo, the Karen was at work and she was bored, and she spake unto herself, "Let us email the Liz, for she is always well full of goodly amusements," and so it was done, and so it shall be. And lo, she wrote unto the Liz, "Help! I am bored out of my mind!" And she hit Send, and waited right prayerfully for her reply. (Thus endeth the first reading.) And she waiteth long and lonesome, and yet no reply came forth from the sky to amuse her, for the Liz had been blessed with a vision from Above, and sent forth into the land of Code, to gather and organize her progeny. And the task was dull, and many children wished not to be ordered. But in the end, the Liz ordered them and counted them, and the Manager smiled upon her work and called it pleasing. But yet there were vexations remaining, for the Allergy Season was full upon the Liz, and so she ventured forth unto the land of Pharmacy to consult the Wise Man who lived there. And the Wise Man gave unto her a potion, and said unto her, "Take ye this potion each morning, and the Allergies will trouble thee no more!" And the Liz took the potion, and gave the Wise Man many gifts of money, and went on her way. But lo! When she had returned unto her place of residence, she did find the email from the Karen, and it was good. And she read of the e-mail to her husband, the Matt, who did smile. And she spake unto herself, saying, "Lo! The Karen is bored! Let us succor her with email in return, though the day has been long and she will be returning home in some few handfuls of minutes." So she spoke, and so it was done, and she did hit Send. And then went she to make the list of Groceries, for it was that the Liz's chores had not yet been all accomplished. (Thus endeth the second reading.) And the Liz and the Matt her husband did travel forth to the Store, and they did cry unto those who dwelt there and beg for sustenance. And those of the Store were generous with their gifts, and filled the Liz's basket with meat and cheese and bread - yea, even unto the brim did was it filled with impulse buys. And the Liz and the Matt blessed them and gave them many gifts of money, and returned unto their home. And the chores were near unto complete, and so the Matt placed a collar upon the cat, who was much vexed, whilst the Liz placed the groceries into the places of keeping, and changed the cat's litter. And thus were the chores completed, and the Liz and the Matt looked upon them, and they were good. So went forth the Liz into the land of Ether, there to make merry with her companions and friends. Some hours did she tarry there, and there were many stories told, both truth and falsehood, for the Liz and her friends are great tellers of stories. And lo, when the sun had set the Liz ventured forth unto the sacred chamber, and there continued her work, which was a map. And the map was to become a foundation for many stories, and so the Liz looked upon it, and it was good, and much care did she take in bestowing upon it the rivers and the mountains and valleys thereof. Yea, she labored many hours upon the map, and yet it remained unfinished. And so the Liz didst place the work into a place of safe-keeping, and went she therefore to rest. And as she laid down her head to rest, she spake unto herself and said, "Lo, I have done nothing today of interest. Let us, when we speak to the masses upon the morrow, share with them the Karen's email and its response, for if they are boring, at least they are amusing." And such was the plan, and the plan was good. (Thus endeth the third reading.) Thus endeth the lesson. (The first and second readings have been adapted from the Book of Silly Emails, a letter from the Karen to the Liz, and the Liz's return unto the Karen. And the Liz did ask, and the Karen did give permission unto the Liz for the use of the Karen's silliness together with her own.) |
