I'm starting a new project at work today. What kind of whacko starts a new project on a Friday?

The kind of whacko who's suddenly realized he's out of money for the old project, I suppose.

The new project is actually the testing of the previous project, and since it's an interesting system, I guess I won't mind too much. The other good news is that the lead for the project, Ted, is pretty laid-back. I'm guessing that we'll have a meeting this morning to talk about plans for testing, and I'll have to write up some kind of document with a test plan that will go into a folder somewhere and otherwise be ignored, but that the actual testing won't start until Monday.

I hope.

I went out with K.T. and Kevin last night - mostly we did some shopping, and then we had dinner. (And public kudos must be given to Kevin for making my Win98 install sit up and beg.) As I pulled into the driveway, getting home, I noticed an odd lump on the sidewalk that leads up to the house.

I went through some strange mental contortions, trying to identify the lump.

Too small to be a cat. Did the neighbor's dog take a dump? No, too smooth. Gods, it's not an insect or a spider, is it? No. No, it's way too big for that. Maybe one of the neighbor's kids left a toy or something...

But no. As I got out of my car and my relative angle changed, I thought, You know, that looks kind of like a box turtle.

And sure enough, as I got close enough to see - voila! Turtle. I haven't seen a turtle in ages, though I used to see them all the time around my parents' place. They usually live in the woods, which we're a little short on. I have no idea where this fellow came from, but I thought he was cute, so I grabbed my camera, and after some argument with the lens about whether it was going to work in the dark (which disturbed the turtle enough that he crawled off the sidewalk and into the grass) I got this picture:
