Picture of the Day

That's just how photography is, I guess. In color - a bunch of tomatoes. But in black and white? It's art!

Well, okay, not really. I was just having fun with some of the functions on my camera.

The voices in my head...Well, with Jeremy's help, I figured out precisely what the problem was that Missa's page didn't show up. I won't get in to it here; it involved the technical specification for style sheets. Let's just say that the problem with being self-taught is that occasionally some very important things will slip right by you.

In any case, if you go look at Missa's page now, it should load correctly in IE, Netscape, or Mozilla.

For that matter, if you are a Mozilla user, then today is the first day that this site has displayed correctly for you. The mistake I was making on my RPG site is a mistake I've been making on this site all year, too. Relatively minor, in this case - all that should have changed is the color of the background and the links.

Damn that strict standards adherence, anyway.

You may have noticed that I didn't, two sections back, provide a link back to Missa's page, which is something I would ordinarily have done.

There's a reason for that. Apple announced yesterday that they're going to begin charging for their iTools accounts (only now they're calling them ".Mac" accounts). They're going to beef the accounts up a lot - some very nice-sounding software, five times the storage capacity, web-enabled e-mail...

But it's going to cost $100 a year. Oh, as a former iTools user, I can get an account for only $50 this first year, but still... No one actually uses that e-mail address to write me, and all I use the account for is hosting my RPG site, really. So I'm going to let that account expire.

It's not that I begrudge Apple the right or the opportunity to make money. They are a business, after all. But it seems ridiculous to pay for webhosting for a site that only three or four other people on the planet even care about. Apple is a business, and of course they have the right to charge for their services. But I am a consumer, and I have the right to go elsewhere if I can get the same services for a lower cost elsewhere.

My RPG site will be moving to Jeremy's server, probably some time next week. After it's moved, I'll put up a forwarding page on the .Mac address, which will linger there until Apple takes it down, which will be at the end of September.

But until I get the site moved, I won't be providing links to anything over there. And when I do get it moved, I'll post the new address here, so the three or four of you with bookmarks can update them.

And no, this site won't be moving any time soon. Though I keep thinking about registering wherelizlives.com... Then it wouldn't matter if I changed servers. Well, we'll see, I guess.
