25 July 2002 You didn't think I'd post a picture every day for a whole month without showing at least one picture of Matt did you? Poor Matt. I went and yelled at him last night, and not for a very good reason. The whole story is here. The update is this: We couldn't figure it out. My AirPort card still doesn't want to see our AirPort base station. And I know it's something wrong with my card, now, because there are at least three wireless base stations in my office - I've never been able to connect to them, but I've always been able to see them - and today I can't see them, either. So in an hour or so, when Apple's tech support line opens for the day, I'll be calling in to see if there's anything they can do, or if they'll want me to ship my computer back to them again. Now that I'm over the screaming frustration, it could be worse. This isn't anywhere near as frustrating as it was when my DVD-ROM wouldn't work. At least this time when the tech support guy tells me to boot to CD, I won't have to argue with him about whether it's possible to boot to CD when the CD player is broken. And it's not like I can't get online. I still have the same connectivity as always at work. And I can still get on the PC at home (it's not like anyone ever calls us on the main house line except for telemarketers anyway, except my parents). But the computer room at home is a little stuffy in the late afternoons, so don't expect to be seeing much of me online before the sun goes down. On the bright side - if I'm not lurking on IRC so much, maybe I'll get more writing done! But it seems some days just aren't worth getting out of bed for. On top of the frustration of a less-than-fully-functional computer, I got ready to leave the house this morning only to discover that my keys had gone missing. My first thought was that I'd locked them in my car - when I got home from work yesterday, it was raining quite hard, and I'd sat in the car for a while (online, if you like irony...). I remembered putting the keys on the passenger seat and thinking, Now, don't forget those and lock them in the car... But no, I'd gotten into the house, so I can't have left the keys in the car. Matt and I went out for Chinese food, though, and even when I'm not driving, I almost always carry my keys with me. I usually put them in my purse if I'm not driving, but they weren't there... And it's happened before that I've been called back to pick up keys I've left on the counter. So that's my current guess - I left my keys at the takeout place last night. Around lunchtime, I'll either call or go up there to see if they have them. (Thank goodness I keep a spare set of car keys around.) Keep your fingers crossed for me, or something. Given the kind of day I seem lined up to have, though, maybe I'll just lock myself in my office for the duration. |
