9 August 2002 I spent four days at work without my laptop, but yesterday my problems with the printer reduced themselves to a pair of strict mechanical problems. I called my contact with the company that makes the printer, and got voicemail. So I spent all day yesterday waiting for him to call back. He did not. I imagine I'll spend all day today waiting, too. And since he's in California, I certainly won't get a call before 11 or so. So, anticipating a very slow day, I brought in the laptop. This is how I'd meant it to be, actually. This is why I got the iPod. My office is too noisy to go without music, especially if I want to dig in and concentrate on something - but I'd gotten used to the wide variety of music on the laptop (as opposed to bringing in individual CDs and playing them on the computer). So I'm happy. Of course, it being Friday helps with the whole "happy" thing. The weekend will go too fast, of course, but they always do. I need to get out and pull weeds this weekend, and if I get really ambitious, I want to till up some of the bare, mossy patches in the lawn. I'm hoping it will help to aerate the soil a little. (Heck, every time I churn up the mulch by pulling weeds, fresh weeds and grass take root within hours. Why shouldn't it work for the yard?) But we'll see how ambitious I get. That may be a job I leave for the fall, when I can scatter fresh seed on newly-turned dirt. Happy Friday, everyone! |
