16 September 2002 Not bad, not bad 'tall... Friday night: Ashby's back! Yay! The bad news is that he's working retail, so he's got an irregular schedule that consistently blocks out his evenings and weekends, but at least he'll be able to join us online occasionally again! Maybe even... send e-mail! Nah. Let's not get crazy, here. Saturday: The Importance of Being Earnest, which somehow completely missed our area when it was first released at the end of May, suddenly popped up again. So Matt, K.T., and I went to see it. I think we laughed ourselves sick. It's a wonderful, wonderful play, and I very much enjoyed the screen adaptation. Though I spent a lot of time wracking my brain over where I'd seen assorted actors before. I finally had to get on IMDB to figure out that Reese Witherspoon had been the sister in Pleasantville - which is silly, because I just watched that movie a couple of weeks ago. And I guess I'm remembering Frances O'Connor from either A.I. or Windtalkers, but I swear to god I thought she looked like a young Sally Field. (Of course, I think Rupert Everett looks like Bruce Campbell, too, so I guess it was just my movie for lookalike stars. The only actors I didn't puzzle over for one reason or another were Colin Firth and Judi Dench.) In any case, it was a riot, and I just adored it. Cecile's fantasies in particular had me falling out of my chair and gasping for breath. Sunday was a nice, lazy, not-much-of-anything day. I always enjoy those, yes indeedy. Karen and I did, however, between us, convert most of The Princess Bride into haiku. All in all, it was a lovely weekend. And I got a lot of writing done as well - I'd guess around 4000 words between all three days. Yay, me! I'm slowly marching forward - there's only three or four more pieces I need to do to finish my portions of Part One. (Not counting revision of the draft. There's a lot of revision that will need to be done. K.T. and I aren't thinking about that just yet. One step at a time - and the first step is a finished rough draft.)
Ah, but it was a Hall-filled weekend, too. Shbee came back, and so Tarri and Sanriel were finally reunited! Huzzah! (They've grown up a lot in the last six months. They really didn't get Cutesy until nearly the end of the session.) And K.T.'s new plot has several people dancing on their toes. I confess, I'm watching and waiting and being amused. Especially by Lisl. When Ysara first appeared, Lisl was suspicious of her. Then Ysara took some abuse and begged Jaret to take care of her father's swords - and now Lisl trusts her. Zoya is amused. And still wary. You don't screw around with spelljammers if you don't have to. (Especially since we haven't had Shbee bring Jelarthna back yet, so Zoya is still without her ship!) |
