Well. A Republican president with a Republican Senate and a Republican House. And they cleaned up most of the gubernatorial races, too.

They said on the radio this morning that analysts were hoping this would add some backbone to the stock market and the economy, at any rate. My response: The analysts would have said the same thing no matter what; only their pseudo-intellectual rationale would have changed. The economy is pathetic and the stock market could hardly get any worse. My 401-k is losing money so badly I'd actually be doing better to flush my contributions down the toilet.

But don't worry. Unca Dubya and his pet Congress will get us embroiled in a nice cozy war in Iraq soon, and then all our worries will be over. War's always a good shot in the arm for the economy, right? I just have two questions...

Where are we going, and what are we doing in this handbasket?

I went to bed at ten last night, almost an hour and a half earlier than usual.

I still couldn't drag myself out of bed when the alarm went off this morning, and I'm still dragging now. I swear, if I didn't know better, I'd think I was pregnant. (Great gods, if I'm this exhausted now, I might as well plan to hibernate for my entire first trimester.)

But since I know I'm not pregnant, I can only conclude that the actual amount of sleep I get is far less important than the way in which I awaken.

But then, we probably all knew that already.

It was raining just a little as Matt and I left for work this morning. It started raining harder as we got into our cars, and by the time I pulled out of the driveway, it was pouring. My office is only about four miles from my house, so it's not a very long drive - only about 10 minutes or so. By the time I was pulling into the office parking lot, the rain had once again dropped off to almost nothing.

It's a metaphor for something, but I'll be damned if I can figure out for what.

Or maybe, more poetically, I'll just say: Murphy blinked.
