26 November 2002

I went to bed before eleven last night, and didn't wake up until the alarm went off this morning. Over seven hours of uninterrupted sleep; how marvelous.

I know, I know: Once we have a baby, seven hours of sleep will be not only marvelous but miraculous. That's why I felt I should record the occurrence now.

Today is Tuesday.

But tomorrow's the last day of the work week (yay, long weekends!) so it's a little bit like Thursday.

And it's the middle of the work week, so it's a little bit like Wednesday, too.

Three days in one! No wonder I'm confused!

Becky sent out an e-mail to everyone in the office yesterday, trying to gauge availability/interest in a potluck lunch on Wednesday.

Her second e-mail, to set up the sign-up sheet for the lunch, was sent to approximately ten people.

Gonna be a dead day tomorrow.

Random won't be around, that much I know - he and his wife are flying to Texas to spend Thanksgiving with her family. In fact, I'm not altogether certain whether he's coming in to the office today.

That's okay. I like it when the office is quiet. I can do more work, faster. I can clean off my desk and wash out my teapot and coffee mug and re-organize my files. I can - I hope - get some writing done.

Game tonight! Whee! I hope this game goes the distance. I really like this character.

She hasn't developed much of a real personality, yet, but I do know she's both optimistic and fatalistic. She believes that the situations she's in and the people she meets are ordained by the gods - and that the gods have very good reasons for everything they do.

Which is probably a good thing. After all, on the say-so of a dream, she packed up her belongings, travelled hundreds of miles overland, and then got on a boat and travelled more hundreds of miles. She doesn't have enough money to buy return passage, so she's stuck in this foreign land where she only barely speaks the language, the people are strange and the gods are even stranger. Does her god even have any power in this land? She has to assume so. She has to assume he had a purpose in sending her to this place, or she'd go mad.

It's a challenge that I'm going to look forward to.

I just have to get through the day at work, first...
