6 December 2002 I'm halfway through Brothers In Arms now, and just about to get into the new bits. I hope it's good. I had my semi-annual dentist appointment yesterday evening. I was warned that yet another of my old metal fillings is beginning to crumble, but they thought it would last another year before they needed to replace it. (Thank goodness. I haven't actually had a cavity in something like five years, but I'm still in The Chair every two or three visits to replace old fillings.) Other than that, I was given a clean bill of health. The hygienist, when I told her we were trying to get pregnant, told me that my gums might bleed a little more than usual, starting around the second month of pregnancy, but that it wasn't anything to worry about. Which is good to know. My brother's new webpage is just about done. He's approved the layout and design, but has yet to give me the information to go on his bio page. If you want to take a look, it's at: http://luckstudios.confusticate.com. Just be aware that for the time, if you click on the "About the Artist" link, you'll get a 404. All in all, I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. But if you have any comments or suggestions, feel free to pass them on. After the dentist last night, I drove down to K.T. and Kevin's. Their car was in the shop, and so they needed someone to give them a lift to pick it up. As long as I was down there anyway, we decided to go out to dinner, at the Olive Garden. I think that's the first time I've ever walked into that restaurant and been seated right away. We got the world's most hyperactive waiter, but at least he was good. I think K.T. and Kevin were vaguely amused at me separating my meal into halves before I even started eating, but I knew in advance that I wasn't going to eat it all, so I'd rather separate it right at the beginning than eat two-thirds of it and not really have enough to bother with taking home. After dinner, we dropped by the Target so K.T. could pick up a new pair of pants. I wished I'd known in advance they wanted to go - I'd have brought my list with me. As it was, I remembered to pick up some icicle lights for our windows and a small space heater, but forgot a couple of other things. I found the space heaters without much difficulty, but then was presented with an oddment of choices. I could either buy a tiny, $15 fan heater, or an enormous $60 radiant heater. There were spaces on the shelves for other possibilities, but the shelves were bare. So I bought the $15 fan heater. I'll keep the receipt. So far it seems to be working reasonably well, but it's awfully loud. I have to go up to DC on Monday with some of my other co-workers. (I hate these... Three hours in the car, then a three-hour meeting that will probably be astonishingly boring, and then the drive home, which since it starts at 4PM in DC will probably be closer to four hours than three. I'm not sure exactly when we're leaving in the morning, so there may or may not be a journal entry that day. But it'll mean that I have a few extra hours on my schedule. I'm planning on using it Tuesday - I'll leave work early (or maybe take a long lunch) and go back to Target for the things I forgot to get last night. Yay for having extra hours in the schedule! Unlike poor Random, who's been out sick all week... and didn't have any vacation time left to cover it. (I only hope he didn't give whatever it is to me when he was in here for four hours on Wednesday.) You didn't think we'd get out of this without a commented pregnancy update, did you? The dental hygienist was funny. She got ready to take x-rays, put that heavy lead-lined apron over me, and I said, "Um, am I supposed to tell you that I'm pregnant?" She whisked the apron away. "No x-rays for you!" (I think she was a little embarrassed - they're supposed to ask, before they do x-rays, if there's a possibility of pregnancy, but she forgot.) Oh, and my OB confirmation appointment has been set for a week from Monday, the 16th, at 10:30. It turned out, when I asked, that Kris and Colleen had different doctors from the same clinic, and they both very strongly recommended against the other major OB/GYN clinic in town. So, that's who I called. Though I confess I was a little tempted by the OB my insurance carrier listed that's within walking distance of my office. And this weekend, I want to go to Barnes and Noble and pick out some books. What To Expect When You're Expecting, maybe, and Kris recommended a series by Dr. Sears. The Expectant Father for Matt. And some kiddie books to give to our parents as part of the announcement. "Here. You'll be needing these." 'Cause you know me. I can't do ANYthing without reading about it first. |
