Amazing. I'm running half an hour late, and still only three people beat me into the office this morning.

It's almost enough to make me consider sleeping in later.

So, this morning - in a little more than an hour - I'm going to leave work again, and go to my obstetrician's office. They'll weigh me (and I understand one of the doctors is a practical joker who likes to sneak up and put his foot on the scale) and take my blood pressure and take various fluid samples (more than that is TMI, I'm sure) to run a myriad of tests.

And then they'll set me up with a too-small gown on an exam table with (thankfully) padded stirrups, and after a variety of mildly humiliating pokes and prods (still more TMI) Matt and I will get to see, for the first time, real incontrovertible proof that we're having a baby: The ultrasound.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't both excited and nervous. I'm hoping that we'll get a printout or two. It'll look like a collection of fuzzy blobs, if the ultrasound pictures I've seen before are any indication - the baby is still too small for us to do more than distinguish major limbs. It's the later ultrasounds that let you see facial features and determine gender.

Still, it's exciting. I don't know if we're going to be able to hear the baby's heartbeat yet or not. I'm looking forward to that, too.

Chances are good there will be an afternoon update or a blog posting this afternoon. Keep your eyes open.
