It was kind of a busy weekend, but fun. We went over to K.T. and Kevin's on Friday and gamed some. Saturday, after running a couple of errands, Matt and I went over to MarsCon. We checked in, said hi to some friends, met up with K.T. and Kevin, and generally wandered around chatting for a while. I bought a few pairs of earrings and a necklace from the dealer's room that I liked. Matt got invited to sit in on the end of a game, so I sat with K.T. and Kevin in the anime room for half an hour. When Matt's game ended, we decided to go home for a while. An hour or so later, K.T. and Kevin came over. We sat around and talked for a bit, and then Matt went over to visit with Braz and Emma while the rest of us watched my tapes of the last couple of Presidio Med episodes. We all met up at the Peddler for dinner (mm, steak) and Emma turned on the charm not just for the five of us but for the whole restaurant. After dinner, we sent Braz and Emma on their way home, and the rest of us went back to the Con. On our way out of the parking lot, I adjusted a bra strap, and my new necklace fell into my lap - it had unfastened itself from the clasp, though thankfully the knot in the string was keeping the beads from spilling everywhere. Back at the Con, we caught about an hour of the auction - always amusing - and then the Women of Whimsey/Caprizzio show, which was my primary reason for attending the Con in the first place. We didn't get to bed until midnight - at which point I discovered that the dangly bit of one earring had fallen off the hook. It was not my night for jewelery. Sunday morning, I found the dangly bit from the earring - it had fallen off after I got home, thank heavens - and so I went back over to the Con to talk to the dealer who'd sold me the necklace and earrings. She obligingly tightened the earring's hook so the dangly bits would stay put, then offered to either return my money on the necklace, or re-string it. I really liked the necklace, so I asked her to re-string it. It took her a little more than an hour, during which time I wandered around the dealer's room, tempted by more than one ludicrous purchase, chatted with a few more friends, and exchanged phone messages with Matt. I stopped at the store on my way home to pick up chili makings. Matt and I spent a blissfully domestic afternoon, making chili and cookies and doing laundry. I've been sucked into the Vorkosigan series just lately, so I spent most of the afternoon and evening reading A Civil Campaign, which I picked up at the used book store last weekend. I'd intended to watch the Super Bowl commercials, but by halfway through the second quarter, I'd stopped noticing when the game paused for commercial breaks. A nice weekend, all in all. Now - if only I'd been able to sleep in this morning... |
