I like Wednesdays. They're calm. We do the grocery shopping, and then we stay home for the rest of the evening. Matt watched a movie. (Boy, oh boy is he loving Netflix.) I did some writing, and I fished out a comfort-book and did some reading. (Comfort-books are sort of like comfort-foods, but less fattening.)

And I finally (after wanting it for days) got some ice cream. So it was a nice evening.

I was getting ready to go to bed last night, and Matt was hanging around waiting for me to go to bed so he could kiss me good-night and go back to his movie.

Getting ready for bed is no longer a simple matter of going to the bathroom and getting undressed and getting in bed. Now there's a whole stack of things to be done. Getting a last drink of milk (because I've been really thirsty for the past few days) and then getting undressed and putting on lotion (different kinds of lotion for different body parts - Bath and Body Works tricked me into buying a new foot cream, and I swear I'm addicted to the stuff after four days) and untangling my sleeping bra and going to the bathroom and re-filling the humidifier and...

So Matt was kind of hanging out and waiting for me. I refilled the humidifier (and yes, it sounds dumb to need a humidifier in Williamsburg, of all places, but it's been a dry winter, and if we run it at night then I don't itch nearly as much when I wake up) and plugged it in. The humidifier didn't turn on, and I said, "Oh, yeah," and moved the plug to the lower outlet, and it started up.

"What was that?" Matt asked.

"The top outlet is connected to the wall switch," I explained. "So we have to use the bottom one."

Matt gave me That Look. "Wait, here's an idea." He moved the humidifier's plug to the top outlet again. "We could use the wall switch to turn it on and off."

I honestly have no idea whatsoever why that didn't occur to me. Isn't Matt smart?
