So, the heater guy finally showed up, and he poked around at things for a while, and then came back in and told me that I was low on charge, which he thought meant there was a freon leak somewhere in my system. He hadn't been able to find it, but the compressor had overheated and switched itself off while he was poking, so he had to wait for it to cool down before he finished the examination. He promised to call me at work before he came back, and we both went our separate ways. I got to work to discover that the network was down. I couldn't even get to our internal sites. It was a Very Boring Day. It was made more boring by the prospect of four training sessions over the course of the week, two and a half hours each. (Well, one of them is only an hour and a half. That doesn't make it any more appealing, really.) Actually, I wormed out of one of them because I had to be at my desk for the call from the heating guy. So I got out of yesterday's interminable session. But there are still tomorrow's and Friday's yet to come. And the heating guy never did call. Finally, at four, I went on home. I collected the mail from the mailbox and stopped to admire the few crocuses that were peeping up from the mulch bed - and the heater guy pulled into the driveway behind me. Guess it's a good thing I don't work until five, eh? By the time he'd finished his additional poking, Matt was home. He refilled our freon, but still couldn't find a leak. He thought we should keep an eye on it, and in a couple of months, when we're ready to switch from heating to cooling, we should call him back out to check it again. Personally, I think there isn't a leak. I think the previous guys had drained the freon to put the new compressor in, and then forgotten to refill it. But we'll see, I guess. We spent more time talking than gaming at K.T.'s game last night, but we did manage to negotiate a temporary treaty between the orcs and the ogres, and Amara acquired her first henchman - an orc thief whose life she saved. We hadn't done very much, so I wasn't expecting to level. But when I added up my experience points at the end of the night... I was one point - just ONE - short. K.T. granted me a mercy point. So now Amara's fifth level. And her henchman will probably "pop" to third level at the next game I need to pull out the priest books for reference and make up some more priestly powers, though. Fifth level was as far as I'd gotten. I hadn't wanted to plan much beyond that, since our games have a bad habit of fizzling out in the first couple of months. I do kind of wonder what's going to happen to the game after the arrival of the babies. Obviously, we'll wind up taking off most of the second half of the year - about the time I'm recovering from the birth and ready to socialize again, it will be K.T.'s turn. And by the time she's ready for socializing, the holiday season will be upon us, which is always hard on gaming and the like. But next year... Will we be able to remember where we'd left off and pick the characters up again? Will we have time for gaming, with two babies underfoot? There's no way to know. We'll just have to wait and see, and play it by ear. An adventure. |
Last Year: All of those seemed like reasonable requests to me. He looked at me like I'd grown an extra head.
