I swear, we need to stop waiting for tables at all these restaurants and just start using their "curbside takeaway" services. We went out on Friday and Saturday night this weekend, and neither time did we sit down before 9:00. We need to just do a round of all the places we eat semi-regularly and ask for the takeout menus, and keep them over at K.T.'s or something. Which is not to say I didn't enjoy my weekend - I did. But it seemed like we spent an awful lot of it waiting for a table. It was moderately productive, at least. K.T. and I got another two chapters edited - and I even got my changes posted. I paid a bunch of bills (which left only $35 in the joint checking account - urk! Maybe it's time to re-evaluate the budget) and finally got to test-drive Honda's hybrid Civic (evaluation: I like the Civic's dashboard/console layout lots more than the Prius', but the Civic was louder, had a rougher ride, and wasn't as comfortable. So I'll be getting a Prius.) and did the usual weekend chores and one of those meals-out we met Colleen and Carl and their baby, and since I haven't seen any of them since shortly after Patrick was born five months ago, that was nice. I also started to try to pack up all the junk we never use in the computer room so we can store it. (Not necessarily in the attic; heat is bad for things like storage media. But I want it boxed up and in a closet so we can get rid of one of the desks.) That was a little depressing. I threw out a ton of stuff, and put together a bag of stuff, in the process cleaning out all the crap that was under the PC desk, and all the stuff in its two shelves, and about a third of the stuff in its cabinet. But since all that stuff had been under the desk or in the desk, it didn't really look like much of anything had been done. I need to go back and throw some more stuff out, too. One of the things I packed and later reconsidered is my old copy of Borland Turbo C++ from college. That I haven't used since college. Even if I want to program at home, I'm going to do it with the less-out-of-date version of Visual C++ that we have. The whole box of Borland stuff should probably just go. And the books... Much as it hurts to throw out books, do we really need a book about DOS 6? Or a five-year-old version of Unix in a Nutshell? I almost threw out the manual for Matt's Palm, but figured he should make that decision himself. Stuff. We have too much freaking Stuff. Maybe this week I'll dive into it again. Ruthless. That's the key. |
