I'm getting slightly overwhelmed by the task of making space for the baby.

I slogged up into the computer room last night and spent about an hour packing things and throwing things out. Mostly, I think, throwing things out. Empty computer game boxes. Games I bought and then hated and will never play again. Random scraps of paper with unintelligible notes, obsolete addresses, or unlabelled order numbers. Obsolete hardware that we'd kept for no apparent reason. (Including a couple of 32-Meg memory chips and a 2400-baud modem.)

But I managed to pack up a box and a couple of bags. A couple hundred floppy disks. A few dozen CDs of Windows-only software. A couple of smart card readers that we'd gotten as a credit card promotion. A stack of manuals and references that haven't been cracked for years. More phone cords, computer cables, and adapters than you could shake a stick at.

I'm not sure what to do with all the stuff that got left out. But I guess that's not really the next step, anyway. The next step is to pack up more stuff.

Most of the paperbacks in there are in there because I don't have much interest in them. They can go into the attic.

Most of the comics in there need to be packed up so we can get rid of them. Actually, I think that once those comics are gone and the remaining comics are stuffed into the closet, the room will seem much bigger.

There are empty boxes that can go into the attic.

And then I can tackle the room that will be the nursery. Right now it's the guest room, plus the repository for a lot of junk that doesn't get used very often.

Like the Christmas decorations. (Attic.)

And all the other holiday decorations. (Attic.)

And my craft supplies. (Some attic, some closet, but all of it needs to get packed up.)

And my sewing supplies, which get used about once a year. And my sewing machine, which I haven't the slightest idea what to do with, since it won't fit in the attic. (Well, it won't fit through the access panel to the attic.)

But there's enough time to worry about that later. I'll take care of the stuff that I do know what to do with, first. Then I'll worry about the other stuff.

I can do this. I just have to stop being overwhelmed by the size of it, and focus on the little bits that I can handle.
