The company I work for is completely re-doing their entire health plan this year. Not much is actually changing for me - I'm keeping the same medical and dental insurance, though I think the rates have changed (of course). The important thing is that everyone must re-enroll, or they will have no health benefits come July. Granted, when the baby comes I'll be able to change my benefits again, since a new family member is one of those "life events" that they have to accomodate immediately instead of making me wait for next year's enrollment period. But in the three months between now and then... Come July, I'll be going to the doctor once a week. Come August I'm looking at a short hospital stay. I am still taking prescription drugs for the next three months. If I'm not insured, it will be very expensive. But I'm responsible. I can sign up. No sweat. The enrollment period started yesterday. I hadn't yet received my packet of information, which contained the PIN I will need to sign into the website. I called the benefits center to ask when I'd be getting my packet. "Any day now," they promised. Sure enough, I got it yesterday afternoon. I went through it and made my choices. (I'll also be doing a comparison between my plan and Matt's to try to figure out which one of us should be covering the baby once she's born. But I won't have to sign up for that until later.) So this morning, I logged in and fired up the website. I hit the "Enroll Now!" button. I got a server error. I'm still getting a server error. I expect I'll be calling the benefits center back in a couple of hours, when they open, to complain and possibly just go ahead and enroll over the phone. Gosh, I love the digital age. |
