Busy weekend. Not enough sleep. But fun. Jeff showed up on Friday, and K.T. and Kevin came up to go to dinner with us. Jeff got some news he'd been waiting for (he's officially employed again; yay!) and we all went out to the Peking/Mongolian BBQ buffet to celebrate. I hadn't been in there since they'd put in the hibachi/sushi bar. I don't like sushi much, but their hibachi was pretty good. Saturday, after running a few errands and having some lunch, Jeff and Matt and I went down to K.T. and Kevin's. K.T. and I threw the boys out for a couple of hours while we did our week's editing. We rushed through it so they'd be able to come back, and finished our two chapters in only two hours! We keep getting better and better... But as it turned out, the guys had come up with enough to occupy themselves with for almost another hour. When they got back, we watched Dogma, which Jeff hadn't seen yet, and then we went to Uno's for dinner. I had steak and potato and the most fantastic strawberry shortcake I think I've ever had. So now strawberries are on my list of things to buy at the grocery store this week. If they look any good, at least. After dinner, everyone decided they wanted to watch Gross Pointe Blank. I wasn't much in the mood for a movie, having just watched one, but since everyone else has a higher tolerance than I do for focusing on the screen, I wandered back into the computer room and chatted with Karen on IRC while they watched the movie. After the movie was over, Matt and Jeff and I gathered our things to head home - it was well past 11:30. Ashby was due to get to town around midnight, but he's never been on time before that anyone knows of, so we figured it would be futile to try to wait around for him. We dithered, chatting, then got ourselves moving. Just as Matt was reaching for the doorknob, there was a knock! Ashby! Not only on time, but early! (Other signs of the Apocalypse are imminent.) So we stayed a little long. Everyone piled into two cars and drove down to the grocery store so that K.T. could get some pickles. (May I mention just how amused I am that she's developed such a stereotypical pregnancy craving?) So it was well past one before we actually left to come back home. Sunday morning, I got up and started working on the novel editing. Eventually, Matt came downstairs and asked if I wanted to open my Mother's Day cards and presents. I said sure, and set my computer aside while he went to get them out of the dining room. Three new presents had been added to the stack. Apparently, I'd walked right past them on my way to get my medicine earlier and not even remotely noticed. Anyway, I had very nice cards from Matt, his mom, and both of his grandmothers. Matt gave me three DVDs, and his mom sent some Bath and Body Works stuff (for me) and a stuff bunny rabbit (for the baby) that's so cute and soft and cuddly that I might consider keeping it for myself. We decided, when we started gathering on IRC, that two nights in a row of eating out was plenty, so K.T. made up a grocery list and made a lovely chicken dish. We pretty much spent the whole afternoon and evening hanging out at K.T. and Kevin's and chatting. It was nice, even if it did mean that Matt and I had to sit up until 12:30 to get the rest of our laundry done once we got home. There's another item for the list of things that suck about being pregnant: My maternity wardrobe is pretty strictly limited. I have four pairs of pants, two pairs of shorts, six shirts, and two dresses. I have exactly seven bras that fit (some of them only sort of), and eight pairs of underwear. Putting off the laundry for a day or so is not an option. When Matt called his mom to wish her a Happy Mother's Day, he got a surprise. She and his sister both want to fly down for my baby shower. That Jill wants to come is only mildly surprising - she's been very excited about the baby, and taking no pains at all to hide it. Rachael was kind of a shock, though. She and I are so very different that we barely even talk to each other when Matt and I are visiting, and even if she's all that excited about getting a niece, I'd have expected her to make any visits after the baby was born. My current theory is that they're using my shower as an excuse to take a little mother/daughter vacation and do some touring. Which is perfectly fine with me. It just caught us by surprise. So now it's Monday, and I got about five and a half hours of sleep, and all I really want to do is put my head down and take a nap. Here's hoping for a slow work day. |
