30 May 2003
So, after all my bitching and moaning about how much work it was going to be, I got about half of the old photo album converted over yesterday, and even got a front page on it. You can find it here. I'll be working on moving over the pictures from 2000 today, and then I'll start adding the "new" pictures - or at least, pictures from 2001 and 2002 that I never got around to posting. It's a good thing I have that to work on. There's not much happening at work right now, and my boss is out of town today and Monday. I've got the week's novel editing to do, still, but that should only take an hour or so. I thought during the read-through that this week's chapters were pretty good to begin with. I've mostly just been cutting out extraneous stuff and marking the usual suspect errors. It's a good thing I've started keeping a calendar lately. The week after next is packed pretty well slam full - and it keeps getting fuller. Mostly with baby stuff. I've got a hospital tour of the maternity ward, a breastfeeding class, an ultrasound, a regular OB appointment, and a Lamaze class. Oh, and a dentist appointment, too. Is it even worth mentioning that everything except the tour and the Lamaze class is crammed into two days? I'm going to have to take Thursday off just to recover, I swear! Well, maybe not, but I might not come back to work on Wednesday after the ultrasound. I'd only be there for about two hours before I had to leave for the dentist, anyway. Oh, well. Not for nothing have I been hoarding my leave. Though I guess I'd better get in all the important Hall sessions I want to do before that week, because actually Halling that week is just not likely to happen. Except for that one week, I think the schedule works to our advantage, really. When I called to sign Matt and I up for the assorted classes, the coordinator expressed a little concern about us taking them a bit early. But they didn't have a later class that wasn't going to run into my due date. But all our big classes and activities (like the shower) are in June and the first part of July, and then they'll be over right at the beginning of that 9th month, just about at the point where I suspect I will not be wanting to go anywhere if I can possibly avoid it. Matt spent some time last night looking at the spreadsheet of names I put together. I'd done first-name candidates down the left, and middle-name candidates across the top, and marked the combinations that I didn't really like very much. I figured that by the time Matt went through and marked the combinations that he didn't like much, we'd at least have cut the possibilities in half. So he marked the combinations that he didn't like much (and bold-faced the ones we agreed on - those are definitely out) and by the time it was done, there were three middle-name candidates that just didn't work for us. So I got rid of them. And then I went through and, from the combinations that were left, I picked out nine or so that I thought sounded especially nice. I guess we'll keep the others around, just in case, but I think the next step is for us to start whittling down that list. I'm not sure exactly how. My first impulse is for us to rank those names in the order we like them. After all, if we both have the same #1 name, then that would be an obvious choice, right? After that... What? Discard each of our last-ranked names, and re-rank those remaining, and repeat until we're left with one? I guess it will depend on how our rankings compare. But it feels nice to be making progress, at least. |
