20 June 2003

I swear, yesterday felt like Friday. I'm being gypped, somehow, having to be at work today. Especially since I've got a two-hour meeting this morning.

But there are things that make it all better.

Karen got to town late Wednesday night, and yesterday afternoon, she and K.T. and Kevin came over to visit with us.

At about 3:50, just as I was packing up to leave work, I sent K.T. a phone beep to say that I was about to leave work, so if they wanted to head on up to Williamsburg, I should be home by the time they arrived.

I only live four miles from work. It takes me between seven and nine minutes to make the drive, depending on whether I get caught at both stoplights. K.T. and Kevin live about twenty miles away.

As I was pulling into my street, a car pulled in front of me, and I noticed that it had New York plates. That's Karen's car! I thought, stunned. How the hell-!

And then I got over the rise and around the bend of the street so I could see my house, and there was Kevin's car, already parked in front of the house.

"Don't you people ever brake?" I demanded.

But it turns out that they'd gone out for a late lunch, and decided to head on up to Williamsburg anyway, as long as they were out, since I was due home Any Minute Now.

And we had a fun time visiting with everyone and opening presents from Karen. (She might have gone just a leetle bit crazy, shopping.)

Then Matt and I went to our Infant Growth and Development class, over at the hospital. This was led not by one of the nurses, but by a representative from the local Children's Development Resource center. She had very few opinions, except that valved sippy cups (the ones that won't spill even a drop if they're knocked over) were pretty evil. But the CDR does cool things, like they will come over to your house and do free screenings if you're afraid your child isn't developing correctly.

After the class, which was fairly short, Matt and I came home and tackled the nursery.

You can read about the horrors of The Crib on my blog. But we finally got everything settled. After deciding that we would put off installing the curtains for another day, I made Matt put a crib sheet on the mattress (I'm too pregnant to reach the far corner of the crib) so I could take pictures. (Even though we'll just have to take it off again. For one thing, it should be washed before we put the baby on it, and for another, we need a mattress pad/protector to go under it.)

But take pictures I surely did! If you went and read about the crib, then you saw two of them; what I've got here are those two, plus closer pictures of the changing table/dresser and the crib - clicking on the thumbnails will take you to the full-sized shot. (In case you're wondering, the color of the walls is most accurate in the lamp picture.)
